The Kanohi Zinn was the Mask of Keen Eyes. When activated, it greatly enhanced its wearer's vision and hand-eye coordination in several ways. This included:

  • Allowing them to clearly see and focus on distant and microscopic objects without narrowing their field of vision or focus
  • Allowing them to see minute details on objects at any distance
  • Enhancing their dexterity when interacting with distant or microscopic objects
  • Negating any visual distortion, be it from external sources (e.g., water diffraction) or internal sources (e.g., nausea)

These effects culminated into a mask power that granted greater vision than the Mask of Sensory Aptitude, and gave all of the abilities of a scoped mask without constricting the user's field of vision.

History[]

Given its somewhat simple Kanoka recipe and usefulness, the Zinn saw common use from the earliest days of the Matoran Universe. Those who wore it regularly ranged from guards and sharpshooters to scientists, jewellers, and scribes. It was widely used by the armies of the Barraki during their takeover of the universe. Many Zinns were also fitted with scopes meant to complement the mask's power without needing to activate it.

Notably, the mask was much easier to craft than the Rode or the Elda, while providing a similar but weaker ability to notice inconsistencies in illusions or the hiddenness of others. It was because of this that it became the most widely used mask for security personnel, although most security forces preferred to still supplement their ranks with at least one Rode or Elda wearer. When the Rode and Elda later became less common for varying reasons, the Zinn remained widely used.

Trivia[]

  • The mask is named after the zonule of Zinn, a ring of fibrous strands in the human eye that allow focusing.
  • Originally, the Zinn was titled the Mask of Scoping, and simply allowed the user to zoom in on distant or microscopic objects. Chondrya later changed its power to make it more than marginally more useful than a scoped mask.
