ZATT-TH
|
- "The Kanohi Zatth had been activated. An invisible signal emanated forth, pulsing at a frequency far exceeding the range of an average audio receptor. Although the mask gleamed, there was no further spectacle. Such was the cruel, dull simplicity of their brooding fates."
- ―Toa Onewa activating a Kanohi Zatth, Besieged.
The Kanohi Zatth was the Mask of Summoning, a Kanohi that allowed the user to reach out and telepathically compel any nearby Rahi to seek out the bearer. The mask, however, did not permit the user to control the Rahi once they were summoned, nor did it permit them to send the Rahi away.
History[]
The Kanohi Zatth traces its origins back back to some of the earliest mask-making techniques adopted on Spherus Magna, where an unclear number of Zatth masks were created for the Matoran populace. At this point in the history of the Matoran Universe, the Zatth became heavily associated with Onu-Matoran, who used carvings of the Kanohi to decorate the Onu-Metru Archives.
An especially powerful Zaath was known to have been stored in a sunken temple in the Zakaz dome by the Great Beings. More powerful than a regular great Kanohi, this version was intended to specifically summon some of the First Rahi. The Aquavians were charged with safe-guarding the location of this particular Zatth, though The Awakening caused the exact location of this temple to slip from their cultural consciousness.
Over the 100,000 year span of the Matoran Universe's functionality, the Zatth became a particularly wide-spread Kanohi, proving easier to forge than the Mask of Rahi Control. Favored in particular by Rahi experts, Toa of Earth have come to respect the mask and its associations with the Rahi kingdom. As such, many Onu-Matoran fear the tremendous destructive potential of the Zatth.
In Metru Nui, a Zatth could crafted with relative ease using Regeneration, Shrink and Reconstitute at Random Kanoka disks. Given the ease with which Zatth could be created, however, the Kanohi became somewhat common in wider Matoran society. Often regarded as something of an impractical Kanohi, the Zatth still maintained a reasonable price, exploiting Onu-Matoran markets.
Most notably, Toa Kongu was also known to have worn a Zatth as a Toa Mahri during his quest to restore Mata Nui by claiming the Ignika from the Pit.
