The Kanohi Volitak was the Mask of Stealth, a Kanohi that allowed the user to blend into their surroundings and reduce the sound of their movements to avoid detection, affecting the minds of a target, making observers subconsciously disregard the subject. The mask, however, did not provide total invisibility like the Kanohi Huna and notably still cast a shadow. Moreover, a Volitak-bearer would not hide a bearer from direct confrontation and offered no protection against a bearer of the Kanohi Elda, Arthron, or Rode.

History[]

Volitak 1

The Kanohi Volitak traces its origins back back to some of the earliest mask-making techniques adopted on Spherus Magna, where an unclear number of Volitak masks were created for the Matoran populace. At this point in the history of the Matoran Universe, the Volitak became heavily associated with De-Matoran, who held the mask up as a symbol of their elemental discipline.

Over the 100,000 year span of the Matoran Universe's functionality, the Volitak became a particularly wide-spread Kanohi, though the Kanohi Huna proved easier to forge. In spite of this, the Volitak came to be an uncommon mask for a Toa to be seen wearing since Toa so often refrained from clandestine activities.

In Metru Nui, a Volitak could crafted with relative efficiency using Shrink, Enlarge, and Weaken Kanoka disks. Given the ease with which Volitak could be created, however, the Kanohi became somewhat common in wider Matoran society, often selling for greater prices than the Huna.

Toa Nidhiki was known to have worn a Volitak during his time serving as a Toa Mangai, using the Kanohi to hide his dealings with the Dark Hunters until he was ultimately exposed at the climax of the Toa/Dark Hunter War. When Nidhiki was mutated by Roodaka, his Volitak was fused with his face and rendered largely inoperable, a condition that lasted until his death.

Most notably, Toa Nuparu was also known to have worn a Volitak as a Toa Mahri during his quest to restore Mata Nui by claiming the Ignika from the Pit.
