The Toa Schism was an event that severely weakened the Toa order.
Background[]
The events that led up to the Toa Schism were caused by reports of a group of arrogant and possibly inebriated Toa of Fire living on the Tren Krom Peninsula that molested the solitudes of the Toa of Sonics and Psionics. Complaints of the events eventually reached the ears of the Turaga Council, which proceeded to cause the disappearance of the offenders. This sparked a further unrest, at first on the part of friends of the offending Toa of Fire who believed that these reports were fabricated, and then later from Toa who believed that the offenders should have been punished by their team leaders, not by the Turaga. Some capitalized on the disappearance of the Toa of Fire to bring up conspiracy theories that said that the Turaga had given the Toa of Fire to Teridax to kill in the fashion of the Archives Massacre. The Turaga council was unable to answer many of these questions.
Official Schism[]
Conditions only worsened after part of Ta-Metru exploded, and the immediate suggestion was that radicals had bombed the city where the offenders had originated from. A few days later, a chute tunnel in Le-Metru bursted, possibly the work of Ta-Matoran terrorists. Arguments quickly heated up, and eventually, Toa began to resign from the order in large numbers, most of whom disagreed with the Turaga's decisions or were accused of taking part in the terrorism. Others began dying and disappearing within the city, furthering suspicions of terrorism.
Aftermath[]
After the Schism and other events, hundreds of Toa had either resigned, been killed within the city, or simply disappeared. The Turaga Council and the leader of the Toa Order, Toa Koret, called upon all the remaining Toa to return to the city. Toa Arphax and a team of select Toa engaged in investigating all the Metrus, and rescued several kidnapped Toa and found many Matoran terrorist bases. In one investigation, the Toa discovered a hidden room with six masks which matched those of the original offenders. It was possible that those original offenders were exiled to The Pit.
