The Toa Hagah were a group of Elite Toa Teams assembled by the Brotherhood of Makuta to serve as bodyguards for many of their members. After Teridax's Toa Hagah team defected and conducted a raid on the Brotherhood's headquarters on the Destral, most members of the Brotherhood killed or otherwise disposed of their teams.

History[]

After the Great Disruption and Teridax's Mutiny, several members of the Brotherhood desired the higher amount of security and utility a team of Toa would provide. Spirah was among the first to recruit such a team, and soon many others would assemble their own teams. Antroz, Chirox, Gorast, Mutran, Teridax, Tridax, and the Makuta of Stelt are all known to have established their own teams, while Bitil, Icarax, Kojol, Krika, and Vamprah did not.

This arrangement would fall apart shortly before the Great Cataclysm, when Teridax's Toa Hagah team discovered the Brotherhood was responsible for stealing the Kanohi Avohkii to prevent the creation of a Toa of Light. In their efforts to recover the mask, they also learned of the Brotherhood's schemes to conquer the universe, enslaving anyone that wouldn't go along with their plans. The team launched a raid on Destral, successfully recovering the Avohkii and hiding it in the Archives in Onu-Metru before they were captured by the Brotherhood's agents.

In the aftermath of this betrayal, most Makuta quietly disposed of their Toa Hagah. Most were killed outright, but other Makuta took different approaches. Chirox experimented on his, mutating them in his efforts to create Rahi. Gorast kept hers in the dark, preventing all but the team leader, Lune from learning the truth. Other Hagah may have been convinced to willingly join the Brotherhood's growing army.

Many years later, after the Great Cataclysm, Gorast sent her Toa Hagah to the island of Voya Nui to recover the Kanohi Ignika from its chamber deep beneath Mount Valmai. Only Lune knew that their goal was to recover the Ignika before Teridax's forces could, acting on information Gorast had recieved in visions centuries ago. The mission was uneventful until they reached the 777 Stairs, when the illusions and tests left by the Great Beings to guard the Ignika began to tear them apart. Eventually, these conflicts turned to violence, and only Lune and Sauti emerged from the Stairs alive. Before they could leave the island, however, Sauti decided he could not allow Lune to take the Ignika back to Gorast, whose motivations he had come to doubt. Sauti decapitated Lune and took the Ignika for himself, resolving to stay on Voya Nui and protect the mask from anyone who would try to take it.

Legacy[]

Before his death, Lune willingly transformed into a Turaga, having completed his Destiny of recovering the Ignika. He put his Toa power into six Toa Stones, the only Toa stones to have been produced by a Toa Hagah. Sauti is currently in possession of these Stones on Voya Nui.

It is currently unknown if Teridax's Toa Hagah team survived the Brotherhood's captivity as they did in the Core Universe, but Lune and Gorast believed them to be dead. Lune also expressed his belief that Chirox's Toa Hagah had also died during his experiments, but provided no concrete evidence for this claim.

Infrastructure[]

Each Toa Hagah team was assembled from established Toa teams from across the world, specifically scouted by agents of the Makuta they work for. The selected Toa typically had already proved themselves through their past deeds, proving themselves worthy of protecting a being as powerful as a Makuta.

Most Hagah teams were comprised of six Toa of different elements, and were not limited to the primary six elements. They wore armor and Kanohi forged from previous metals in a shape that honored a past hero. Typically, this mask was a gift from their former teammates when they joined a Hagah team. This armor was accompanied by a matching spear, each with its own unique ability, and Rhotuka launching shield.
