The Arker Chronicles is the sixth installment in the Unending Shadows Storyline. A series written and directed by Invader39, it consists of three books, which all revolve around the team Shadow's End and the possible awakening of the Dark Shadow by the forces of evil.

Plot

The first book, Shadow's End, deals with the formation of the titular Shadow's End. Following from Echoes in the Past, it continues the storyline of the Legion of Chaos, still led by Makuta Orpheus, in their quest to collect the Power Stones, and the Order of Mata Nui's crusade to stop them.

The book is set to be released in 2021. The story ties into Obscurity.

Book Two: A Broken World

Plot

The second book, A Broken World, is set during the Reign of Shadows, taking place three months after the events of Shadow's End. It follows Shadow's End trying to survive in the conquered universe while trying to stop the Legion of Chaos from collecting the Power Stones and freeing the Dark Shadow. The story also carries on from Haunted Origins.

The book is succeeded by Reconstruction. It is the only stopmotion installment of the story.

Book Three: The Powers That Could Be

Plot

The third and final book, The Powers That Could Be, takes place three years after the conclusion of A Broken World. It follows Shadow's End continuing their quest to destroy the Dark Shadow, which they seek to accomplish by collecting all six of the Power Stones. Unlike the previous two books, The Powers That Could Be takes place both on Spherus Magna and in space, somewhere that has seldom been explored in BIONICLE fiction.

Production

Origins

Originally, Invader39's story was split into three parts: The Order of Mata Nui, The Order at War and The Order of Heroes. Several major changes had been made since the series' original conception. The Dark Shadow did not exist, Implex was a female version of Jovan torn from him by the Spear of Fusion, Cordak (from Invader Cordak) was a Makuta and Arker was a male Toa of Lightning. Invader Cordak was actually a spin-off for a while. This was scrapped. Many aspects of the series' were brought over into the current series.

Then it was changed into The Arker Chronicles in 2012. Invader39 had made nine episodes in the "Original Series" but then remade them due to them not having a script, he remade it into the current version.  

Stopmotion Era

Writing

Writing for the first season began in early 2013 and concluded on November 25, 2013.

Writing for the second began shortly after, but this version of the script was not kept and redone in 2014 and 2015 before being scrapped again and writing began in early 2015 and concluded on October 1, 2015.

Writing for the third and final book began in December 2015 and concluded on October 1, 2017, two years after the conclusion of the second book.

In March 2020, it was decided that the third season would be written as prose, as the second season had become too much of a behemoth to handle. There will be supplementary material released with each chapter, and it will still be billed as the third season of the series.

Filming

Production for the first season began in April 2013 and concluded on January 14, 2014.

Filming for the second book began on September 23, 2015 and is currently underway with over ten full episodes filmed.

Casting

In the first season, Invader39 voiced every character, even the female ones, in the series. In episodes 6, 7 and 8 of the season Hero567 voiced Skyer and his alternate counterpart. He will not, however, return for the second season.

A female voice actress is currently being looked for to voice the several female characters in the second season.
