Tegis is a female Ko-Matoran inhabitant of Lanai Nui previously living on Engetu, who, along with her best friends Khormu and Acasta, was indirectly responsible for awakening the Makuta Contingency. An abrasive and taciturn individual, Tegis is an detached and withdrawn Matoran who feels a great deal of shame over her role in the rise of the Makuta Contingency.

History[]

Early Life[]

Tegis, like most Ko-Matoran, began his life shortly before the completion of the Great Spirit Robot on Spherus Magna. Being created female, an unusual phenomenon for her element, she was likely one of the earlier Matoran created. He was placed in the Tren Krom Peninsula with a number of other Matoran, and for many years, she labored in a non-sentient state, an existence which would give way to full sentience sometime shortly after the Great Spirit Robot's takeoff into interstellar space.

Tegis is reluctant to give many details about her past prior to her arrival on Engetu, but from what can be gathered, her existence was not a comfortable one. She spent the first part of her life in the impoverished and war-torn Tren Krom Peninsula, where she witnessed many atrocities and suffered from deprivation. These experiences gave her a paranoid and isolated mentality, and she would trust nobody but herself. In addition, Tegis realized that she was mentally unlike her fellow Matoran- she felt no desire to socialize with them nor did she understand any reason why she was expected to do so. Along with her gender, this quality led her to be shunned to an extent.

Many years before the Great Cataclysm, Tegis was captured in a Noblintian slave raid and was transported to Noblintia. She worked as an enslaved nurse there for many years under conditions she has only described as horrible. She is known to have worked in the same household as Ghilin, a Ga-Matoran native to Noblintia, and the two became each other's only close friends. For Tegis, this was the first time she had made anything close to a friend or felt the desire to socialize.

After Ghilin was beaten by her and Tegis' master and suffered a serious head injury, Tegis became determined to escape from Noblintia with Ghilin. She was assisted in this by a mysterious Matoran, and her and Ghilin arrived on Engetu several years before the Great Cataclysm. After arriving on Engetu, Tegis took up work as a nurse and lived with Ghilin, who she cared for after the latter suffered reduced mental capacity from her head injury. She would befriend fellow Ko-Matoran Kuros as well as the Ta-Matoran Khormu, though she did not warm up to the latter for quite a while.

Great Cataclysm and Life on Lanai Nui[]

Much like the other surviving inhabitants of Engetu, Tegis's peaceful life was forever changed in the Great Cataclysm. While the dome containing Noblintia, Lanai Nui, and Engetu was mostly spared from the most devastating effects of the tragedy, Engetu itself was not. The impact of the Great Spirit Robot against the surface of Aqua Magna caused a massive dormant volcano on Engetu to suddenly reawaken, and a colossal eruption commenced without warning several hours later. This eruption would ultimately completely destroy Engetu.

The village in which Tegis lived was one of the furthest from the volcano, and as such she had a comparatively large amount of time to evacuate. Tegis was able to bring Ghilin to safety at first, but the two of them became trapped under rubble shortly after and were immobilized. Havara, however, was able to free both of them, and Tegis credited him with saving their lives. Havara stayed behind on Engetu to rescue more Matoran and Tegis and Ghilin entered the ocean and began to swim away. Due to Ghilin's skill at swimming as a Ga-Matoran, neither Tegis nor Ghilin came anywhere close to drowning. Both were picked up by the same fishing vessel that rescued the other survivors, and arrived on Lanai Nui shortly thereafter.

Tegis resettled in Kini-Lanai with Khormu after Ghilin decided to live on her own in Ga-Lanai-Koro, and the two shared an apartment for some time. Tegis found herself more haunted by the loss of her adopted homeland than she expected, and she receded into an isolated existence for some time, barricading herself in her bedroom to live in squalor for years on end. Her traumatic memories of her life on the Tren Krom Peninsula and under Noblintian slavery came back full-force, plunging her into a brief episode of detachment from reality.

Tegis eventually realized she could not go on living like this and left Kini-Lanai for Po-Lanai, where she settled in an isolated homestead. She found employment as a field nurse, and she would travel the rural parts of Lanai Nui and assist wounded travelers. While in Po-Lanai, she made the acquaintance of Acasta, whose outgoing ways she found annoying at first. Khormu would also often visit her, and the two grew quite close, which disturbed Tegis somewhat. The three soon formed an inseparable trio.

Due to the fact that Makuta Teridax's takeover of the Matoran Universe was halted by the Toa Mahri and Toa Nuva in The Fall Alternate Timeline, and that Spherus Magna was never reformed and the Matoran Universe never destroyed as a consequence, Tegis continued to live on Lanai Nui instead of emigrating onto Spherus Magna. Additionally, Imperas and his fellow Makuta were never killed by Teridax, and continued to slumber beneath Lanai Nui. Three years after the defeat of Teridax, Tegis, while on an exploration of Onu-Lanai's caverns with Khormu and Acasta, discovered the dormant members of the Makuta Contingency and accidentally awakened them. She, as well as Khormu and Acasta, were fortunate enough to escape alive.

Traits and Abilities[]

As a Ko-Matoran, Tegis possessed a limited degree of elemental control over Ice, which manifested as a resistance to extreme cold. She wore a powerless Kanohi Orosei, Mask of Healing. Additionally, due to her training as a nurse, she was knowledgeable in how to treat injuries.

Personality[]

Tegis is an odd and abrasive individual who deliberately distances herself from others with very few exceptions. Traumatized by her experiences in the Tren Krom Peninsula and as a slave, it takes a long time to earn even a smidge of Tegis' trust, and even then she is not forthcoming. Due to innate mental differences, Tegis almost never feels a need to socialize and does not understand why others expect her to do so, and she may grow disdainful of individuals who try to reach out to her or are more extroverted. She is prone to auditory hallucinations and obsessive delusions, which cause her great distress. Despite her expressionless exterior, Tegis can be quite goofy with those she trusts, and she is prone to playfully teasing and mocking them.

Trivia[]

  • Tegis was first created in 2015 along with Acasta, who was initially her closest friend.
  • Earlier versions of Tegis wore a Volitak and a Tryna.
