History[]
During the Toa-Dark Hunter War, an Onu-Matoran named Monaru was helping to build a new section of the Archives under Ga-Metru when the tunnel ceiling collapsed. Mutagenic chemicals in a Ga-Metru laboratory above the dig site poured all of its contents onto him when it caved in, and mutated Monaru into his current state. When he finally emerged from the rubble, his new form terrified his friends. Shocked and deeply saddened, he cast off his old identity and left the city to join the Dark Hunters.
After unexpectedly discovering his vulnerability to sound, the Dark Hunters equipped Subterranean with sound-dampening armor to counteract this weakness. For the next 4,000 years, Subterranean served as a Dark Hunter on various missions, some of which involved hunting down Toa.
Abilities and Traits[]
Subterranean has the power to disassemble almost anything he touches. He can also temporarily hypnotize his opponents with a mere glance.
In addition to these powers, Subterranean's mutation enhanced his hearing to the point that even the slightest sound is painful to him. For this reason, he is equipped with sound-dampening armor, although he still avoids Toa of Sonics whenever possible.
