The Shadow Alternate Universe (also known as SAU) is an alternate universe widely different from the Core Universe.
History[]
The Ancient Times[]
- The Great Beings appear on Spherus Magna.
- Annona attempts to feed on the dreams of the Great Beings.
- However, the Great Beings feed off of Annona's dreams, and this fuels them to imagine and create. Annona is then forced to retreat within Spherus Magna.
- Energized Protodermis begins leaking from the core of Spherus Magna to the surface.
- War breaks out over control of the protodermis, now known as the Core War.
- To try and end the war, the Great Beings create the Baterra, shape-shifting war machines designed to attack anything with a weapon. This ends in a failure.
- The Great Beings build a gigantic prototype robot with the goal to save Spherus Magna from destruction.
- The prototype robot explodes upon its activation and destroys everything around, killing many Spherus inhabitants in the process.
- Devastated by their failure, the survivors decide to build an artificial planet instead of a robot to flee Spherus Magna when the time comes.
- The Great Beings create Matoran to construct the planetoid, called Matora Magna.
- Tren Krom is created to oversee Matora until Mata Nui can take over.
- The Great Beings create the first Toa, a Toa of Water, named Helryx.
- The Ignika is created and hidden by the Great Beings.
- The Great Beings secretly form the Order of Mata Nui for Mata Nui to lead.
- When the basic structure of the planetoid is completed, the Great Beings launch it into space along their creations.
- The Great Spirit Mata Nui is created to oversee Matora Magna and guide the Matoran in their duty to build the planet.

Points of divergence[]
The very first point of divergence of the Shadow Alternate Universe is the fact that the failure of the Great Spirit Robot prototype had consequences, unlike in the Prime Reality. Because of that, the Great Beings decided to create the counterpart of the Matoran Universe, Matora Magna, as a safe and simple planet rather than a complex and dangerous robot - which seems more logical considering the lives that the prototype's explosion cost.
