The Shadow's End Trilogy is a series of stories written by Invader39. It follows the titular team, formed and tasked by the Order of Mata Nui, to prevent the Legion of Chaos from collecting all seven Power Stones and releasing the Dark Shadow.

Premise

A hundred thousand years ago in the Before Time, the planet of Spherus Magna was on the verge of destruction. The Great Beings, desperate to save at least something, planned to construct a massive robot being, populated with biomechanical beings. This robot was to be governed by the Great Spirit Atarai Nui. However, upon her activation in the prototype robot, she used her new power to attack the inhabitants of Spherus Magna, forcing the attention of the Core War to her. Atarai Nui’s attacks further destabilized the planet.

After a long fought battle between the Spherus Magnans and Atarai Nui, she was defeated, but being too powerful to kill, she was trapped in an artificial moon called the Asylum in a pocket universe. The rift was closed, but the Great Beings created seven keys - the Power Stones - capable of opening the rift, that maybe someday she will be destroyed, and scattered them throughout the universe. The Great Beings then create Mata Nui, and launch the Great Spirit Robot from the planet just as it breaks apart.

Tens of thousands of years pass, and the universe goes on with no knowledge of this history. However, there are rumors and legends of Atarai Nui’s existence, and the existence of the Power Stones. Makuta Axis and Makuta Orpheus of the Brotherhood of Makuta learn of these rumors, and see it as their destiny to release the Dark Shadow. They break off from the Brotherhood of Makuta and form the Legion of Chaos, converting followers to their cause. This group becomes a formidable assembly of warriors as they quest for the Power Stones.

Eventually, the Order of Mata Nui becomes aware of the Legion and their quest, and begins opposing them. But, at the same time, they are waging the Destiny War. Their resources stretched thin, they decide to find and recruit five outside Toa to form a team to find the Power Stones before the Legion does. These Toa are Arker, Implex, Skyer, Coltrix, and Kinla. They are brought into the Order, informed of their mission, trained, and sent on their way with a few other Order members. Along the way, they are joined by Iyre and Elisis, who join the group. They are initially apprehensive to work with each other, but as they journey across the universe, opposing the Legion of Chaos at every turn, they become an unlikely band of heroes. Together, they form Shadow’s End, and their destiny is to destroy the Dark Shadow.

• Aspects of the trilogy were influenced by Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Star Wars, and Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated.
• The Shadow's End Trilogy is the reincarnation of Invader39's previous attempt at a BIONICLE storyline, the Unending Shadows Storyline, bearing several similarities but in a condensed and reworked form.
  • The trilogy is also more in line with Invader39's original vision for his storyline, dating back to 2011.
