Salzak was the reclusive Makuta of Okoto and a former member of both the Brotherhood of Makuta and the Cult of Dark Order.
History[]
Over 100,000 years ago, Salzak was brought into being by the Great Spirit Mata Nui from a substance known as Antidermis. Like all other Makuta, he was created to be a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta, an organization which was devoted to serving the will of Mata Nui.
During his time serving the Brotherhood, Salzak was known by his fellow Makuta as a reclusive who tended to create all kinds of Rahi alone in his spare time. He often enjoyed experimenting on them, sometimes enhancing them, and other times fusing them together, which often ended up in mixed results.
Following the Matoran Civil War on Metru Nui, Salzak was assigned to supervise the island of Okoto. He would periodically watch over the island for several months, and often created various undersea Rahi which he cherished dearly.
Eventually, Salzak was summoned by Teridax, who requested him to capture and retrieve Matoran to convert into protectors for the Makuta. He took pride and joy in doing this task, retrieving random Matoran from various continents and using Shadow Leeches to drain their inner light and convert them into obedient servants for the Brotherhood. However, one of the Matoran he captured in particular caught his eye. This Matoran had held firm to most of his inner light, despite becoming a Shadow Matoran in the process. He would later find out that his name was Ardak.
When Teridax announced his plan to take over the Brotherhood, Salzak was among the many Makuta to join him. The Makuta Purge commenced shortly afterwards. During the conflict, Salzak used his Mask of Convulsion to violently shake and kill one of the Toa, Varhuka, just as he was about to throw one of his Sonic Bombs at him. He would then battle the now transformed Toa Ardak, but was severely damaged by him and sent flying out a window, plummeting to the ground below.
Salzak would eventually be found and rescued by Trazark and his Cult of Dark Order, where he would be repaired and offered an invitation to join the organization. After being informed that Ardak had killed Teridax and the Brotherhood of Makuta was left in shambles, Salzak joined the organization, hoping to one day take revenge on Ardak for besting him and decimating the Brotherhood which he once was a part of.
Almost a century later when Kuurk's Empire was formed, Salzak would be dispatched by Trazark to finally have an opportunity to kill Ardak, who by now was a Turaga. Salzak infiltrated the Empire by entering the fortress' eastern entrance and upon spotting Ardak, charged at him in an enraged state. During the battle, Salzak broke the Turaga's Mask of Sensory Aptitude by punching him really hard in the face by using his Shadow Hand, rendering the Turaga of Shadow unconscious. Kuurk would then see what was happening and stepped in to fight the Makuta before he could finish his old enemy off. After a brief battle with the overlord, Salzak was slain after being fatally stabbed in the chest with one of his own Throwing Daggers by Kuurk.
Salzak's Mask of Convulsion, along with his armor and weapons were later removed from his corpse and put on display in a Museum inside Kuurk's Empire.
Abilities and Traits[]
Salzak was known by his fellow Makuta for his reclusiveness, but also for his various Rahi creations. He loved experimenting and could often be seen toying with some Rahi to enhance or fuse them into one.
Salzak possessed all the special powers common to the Makuta species, which included elemental Shadow powers, Kraata production, and the forty-two Kraata powers. Salzak often made use of his Teleportation ability to travel the vast distances between his assigned region of responsibility. Of the many Shadow abilities Salzak had control over, he was extremely skilled with manipulating a Shadow Hand; unlike most Makuta, he had enough skill with it to throw objects and to avoid the automatic retraction that it usually performed.
