Raneh is a Vo-Matoran and one of the many immigrants to travel to Cahlra Nui. She is accompanied by her fellow Vo-Matoran and life partner, Raku. She first appeared in chapter 2 of Surface Tension.
History[]
Gahru Nui[]
Raneh lived on one of the many shattered islands of Gahru Nui. They are described as sharing their entire lives together, both in work and pastimes. They worked together as hunters of Olono vine eels, with Raneh in charge of the net. Together they fled their home after the attacks of the Crumaki hordes forced them to seek safety. They crossed the ocean in search of a new home, presumably with other Matoran refugees.
Cahlra Nui[]
Upon arrival at Cahlra Nui, Raneh was assigned to live and work in Gavo-Distra along with Raku. They were then sent to work at the hydroelectric power plant, but due to the scheduling the two of them were assigned different shifts, Raku the day shift and Raneh at night. After arguing with their shift manager Ixha, they resigned themselves to their situation at the possibility of working together the following week instead. Raneh was shown to be more willing to accept the compromise and talked Raku out of pushing the matter further.
Raneh was late to her first shift at the power plant, much to the annoyance of Ixha and another worker, Shui, whose shift she was supposed to be relieving. She was assigned to charging the battery-like Durah fruit. After working at the frustrating task for some time, she began to reminisce about her time on Gahru Nui. She felt guilty for not being more grateful about being fortunate enough to escape the hardships of her former life, since working at the plant made her still feel a sense of entrapment. She started to think about her life before the Crumaki invasion and her time hunting with Raku before Ixha returned and interrupted her brooding. Knowing it looked like she was slacking off, Raneh made an excuse about having a lot on her mind about adjusting to her new life, managing to appeal to Ixha's sympathy. She was successful and Ixha cut her some slack.
Abilities and Traits[]
Raneh shares traits common with other Vo-Matoran. Due to being resistant to electric shock, she is well-suited to jobs involving high voltages.
Personality[]
Compared to her partner, Raneh is the more passive of the two, and is shown to be more willing to submit to authority. She tries to be polite to those around her, even when nervous or upset. She seems to be somewhat prone to daydreaming and introspection, a tendency that caused her to both arrive late to her workplace and get in trouble while on the job. Raneh also seems much more emotionally affected by the trauma of her past life. She may also show signs of survivor's guilt following her escape from the destruction of her home, Gahru Nui.
