Raku is a Vo-Matoran and one of the many immigrants to travel to Cahlra Nui. She is accompanied by her fellow Vo-Matoran and life partner, Raneh. She first appeared in chapter 2 of Surface Tension.
History[]
Gahru Nui[]
Raku lived on one of the islands of Gahru Nui with Raneh. They are described as sharing their entire lives together, both in work and pastimes. Her job was hunting in the jungle for Onolo eels with her hook. Together they fled their home after the attacks of the Crumaki hordes forced them to seek safety. They crossed the ocean in search of a new home, presumably with other Matoran refugees.
Cahlra Nui[]
Upon arrival at Cahlra Nui, Raku was assigned to live and work in Gavo-Distra along with Raneh. They were then sent to work at the hydroelectric power plant, but due to the scheduling the two of them were assigned different shifts, Raku the day shift and Raneh at night. After arguing with their shift manager Ixha, they resigned themselves to their situation at the possibility of working together the following week instead. Raku was more reluctant to accept it, threatening Ixha if anything were to happen to Raneh during their time apart, at which Ixha simply suggested an alternative, unsavory position at the water purification plant.
At her first day on the job, Raku was assigned to powering charged lightstones by her supervisor, Syred. After working for some time, she returns from her break to find another Matoran, Kukuna, also charging stones with visible difficulty. After attempting to greet her, the Ga-Matoran drops one of the freshly charged lightstones when it accidentally gives her a minor shock, exposing the two of them to its harsh light. Closing her eyes, Raku crouches down and feels around to recover the lightstone for her and contains it in a canister with little incident. She then earns Kukuna's trust and learns about why the Matoran was sent to do a job that's uncomfortable for a Ga-Matoran. Feeling bad for her, Raku comes up with an idea that will prevent Kukuna from accidentally shocking herself again, by proposing she only insert drained lightstones into the charging terminals while Raku will collect them with the canisters. The two proceed to get along well and work more efficiently than they could on their own.
Abilities and Traits[]
Being a Vo-Matoran, Raku is more resistant to electric shock than other Matoran, especially the particularly vulnerable Ga-Matoran around her. When coming in contact with a charged lightstone, it is described as causing a harmless tingling feeling.
Personality[]
Raku comes across as outspoken, assertive, almost argumentative at times, but ultimately she is willing to listen to reason and accept when she has no further room to negotiate. She has displayed very protective behavior for her partner, Raneh. She seems to have trouble respecting authority at times, having no qualms about arguing with Ixha and rolling her eyes behind Syred's back during training. Raku has shown a certain degree of cleverness and the ability to come up with solutions to simple problems on the spot, evidenced by quickly relieving Kukuna of her job's difficulties by splitting the tasks between them.

- Before the story reboot, Raku was originally a Ga-Matoran and a kolhii champion. Her appearance was identical to Hahli's.
