"Whether you consider its powers immoral or not you must admit that the Otmena is a very useful mask. Handy against many opponents, since we often face off against those with powers. Not useful against Makuta, due to the sheer number of powers they possess, but you don't see them often anymore anyway."
Toa Tulwe's thoughts on the Kanohi Otmena.

The Kanohi Otmena is the Mask of Nullification in the Chalkaverse-1.

History[]

The Mask of Nullification was originally conceived by the Great Beings as one of a number of masks for the Matoran to wear. Due to its ability to nullify nearly any power, the Great Beings made it slightly harder to craft than most Kanohi, requiring a total of five Kanoka disks. The first Toa of Fire gave it the name Kanohi Otmena. Upon the intellectual awakening of the Matoran due to Grifos's tampering, the majority of Turaga deemed the Kanohi immoral because of its ability to strip a target of their fundamental ability. As such, most Matoran, Toa, and Turaga would choose not to wear it.

The Kanohi was known to be highly popular among criminals and conquerors, as the ability to remove an opponent's powers was highly useful. A number of Makuta were known to favor the mask, and it was found to be particularly useful when combating Toa of Metal or Magnetism, two of the Makuta's biggest weaknesses.

Description[]

The Kanohi Otmena allows its bearer to disable the powers of a target. What powers, how many powers, and for how long they are disabled is up to the concentration of the bearer and the power level of the Kanohi.

•Noble: A Noble Otmena is only able to nullify a target's elemental abilities, and requires a large amount of concentration to maintain.

•Great: A Great Otmena can disable any two powers the target possesses, so long as the user knows of them. Maintaining the mask power takes less concentration overall, with disabling one power being easier than disabling two.

•Nuva: An Otmena Nuva can disable any three powers of the target, as long as the user knows what they are. Maintaining the power takes the least concentration of the three forms, and is easier to use when disabling a smaller number of powers.

The Kanohi Otmena is made from five weaken Kanoka disks.

Toa normally consider the Otmena's powers immoral.

Example Usage[]

Toa Raumo used a Kamohi Otmena to disable the powers of a Kohrak.

Etymology[]

The Kanohi Otmena is named after the Russian word for "cancellation."
