Nidhiki was once the Toa Mangai of Air. He later betrayed his teammates and became a Dark Hunter, and was mutated into an insectoid monster by Roodaka. He later was absorbed by Teridax.

History[]

Matoran[]

Nothing is known about his pre-Toa Mangai days other than that he lived on the Tren Krom Peninsula as a Le-Matoran.

Toa[]

It is unknown how Nidhiki became a Toa. When the Kanohi Dragon came to Metru Nui, Nidhiki and ten other Toa, led by Lhikan, were summoned to the city to defeat it. After weeks of exhausting combat, they succeeded. While the other Toa were trying to decide what to do with the dragon, Nidhiki attempted to kill it, but was unable to pierce its tough hide. The dragon was then shipped to Xia, whose inhabitants had agreed to keep it out of trouble

Some time later, while fighting off a group of Dark Hunters attempting to infiltrate Metru Nui, Lhikan and Nidhiki discovered that one of their teammates, Toa Tuyet, was hiding a powerful artifact called the Nui Stone. Worse, in order to get the other Toa to defeat the Dark Hunters, who were after the stone, she was killing Matoran and making it look like the Hunters did it. Upon finding this out, Lhikan and Nidhiki confronted Tuyet and, even though she used the power of the Nui Stone, were able to defeat her. Nidhiki wanted to keep the stone, but to his dismay, Lhikan shattered it.

Two thousand years later, the Dark Hunters, angry at Turaga Dume's refusal to allow them to build a base in Metru Nui, invaded. At first, the Toa, vastly outnumbered, were unable to do much. Eventually, they managed to get word to other islands nearby, and were joined by nearly a hundred more Toa. The battle reached a stalemate, until one night, Nidhiki was spotted and then confronted by the Dark Hunter named Lariska, who, instead of killing Nidhiki, offered him a deal. Nidhiki agreed to betray his fellow Toa and lead them into an ambush. However, Lhikan overheard this conversation and made plans of his own. However, he too was then confronted by Hakann, who offered a new deal: the Toa could spring their trap, but the Dark Hunters would then be allowed to leave the city unharmed. The Toa therefore emerged victorious, and Lhikan instructed the Dark Hunters to leave Metru Nui and never come back, and to take Nidhiki with them, which they did.

Dark Hunter[]

"Toa... so dramatic. This time, your farewell will be forever, brother."
―Nidhiki to Lhikan

With nowhere else to go, Nidhiki joined the Dark Hunters as an instructor, teaching others – including Vezok – from his experience as a Toa. Wanting to be more than a teacher, he asked to be sent on missions. He got his wish, but to his displeasure was paired with a dim, brutish Dark Hunter named Krekka. From the perspective of the Hunters' leader, "The Shadowed One", this was a good partnership: Krekka could be effective if he stuck to Nidhiki's plans, and, with his loyalty and mindless obedience, could keep Nidhiki in line and make sure he did as he was told.

However, Nidhiki continued to want more, dreaming of being a hero again. When Roodaka came to the Dark Hunters seeking training, he offered to reward her if she would help him escape the island. Instead, she alerted the Shadowed One to Nidhiki's plans and "purchased" her training by mutating him into an insectoid monster, ensuring that he could never be accepted anywhere except the Dark Hunters. Ironically, Nidhiki was entomophobic.

Return to Metru Nui[]

1,001 years ago, The Shadowed One leased the services of Krekka, Nidhiki, and Eliminator to Makuta Teridax, who was enacting the first phase of his Grand Plan to seize control over the Great Spirit Robot but was finding himself continuously marred by the interference of Nidhiki's former Toa Team. Under the guise of the local Turaga, Teridax instructed Krekka and Nidhiki to isolate the Toa and recover the six Great Disks necessary to craft the Kanohi Vahi whilst "Eliminator" hunted the Toa Mangai and the Po-Matoran Chronicler, Kodan.

Using his unique Lightning capabilities, "Eliminator" was able to murder eight of the remaining Toa, damaging their neural circuitry to prevent them from being revived in the Red Star. With only Toa Lhikan remaining, "Eliminator" departed Metru Nui, leaving his fellow Dark Hunters to finish the job. Tasked with ensuring the silence of Turaga Dume through similar means, however, Nidhiki proved too conflicted to murder the Turaga who had offered him so many opportunities, instead placing him in a Matoran Pod beneath Po-Metru.

Tasked with retrieving the six Great Kanoka Disks and capturing Toa Lhikan, Nidhiki set about locating the six Matoran from each district who knew the locations of the various Disks. Eventually contacting a Po-Matoran named Ahkmou, Nidhiki was able to use the Matoran's rivalry with Onewa to convince him to help him obtain all of the Great Disks, promising that he would be well-paid and that the Dark Hunter would not disturb him any longer once he had completed the task. To help him in his mission, Nidhiki gave Ahkmou the names of the other five Matoran who knew where the Great Disks could be found, and Ahkmou sent a variety of false messages that led each of them into traps set up by Nidhiki and Krekka.

Having set in motion a means to acquire the Great Disks and with the Toa Mangai disappearing in rapid succession, however, Lhikan grew wise to the Dark Hunter plot and learnt that Nidhiki had once again returned to Metru Nui. Mistrustful of Turaga Dume, the Toa of Fire looked to the stars and saw the names of six Matoran written among them. Reviving the ancient practice of creating Toa Stones, Lhikan imbued his Toa Power within the stones then transported them to the six Matoran: Vakama, Nokama, Whenua, Onewa, Matau and Nuju, in the hopes that they could succeed where he and his fellow Toa Mangai had failed. Distributing the Toa Stones, however, Lhikan was ultimately captured by Nidhiki and Krekka in Ta-Metru, before being taken to the Prison of the Dark Hunters in Po-Metru.

Seeking to accelerate their plans, Nidhiki and Krekka applied more pressure on the Matoran, ravaging their workplaces and homes, only for the newly-appointed Toa Metru to gather each Matoran and retrieve the Kanoka Disks themselves.

Alternate Versions[]

Toa Empire[]

In an alternate Universe visited by Takanuva, Nidhiki and Lhikan confronted Tuyet about the Nui Stone. Nidhiki then joined Tuyet, killed Lhikan and began to help brainwash other Toa, making them believe the only way to rule was to control. When Takanuva visited the universe, Nidhiki was not seen anywhere.

Abilities and Traits[]

As a Toa of Air, he controlled the element of Air. He carried an Air Scythe and wore the Kanohi Volitak, but he lost the ability to use it when Roodaka mutated him.

After being mutated, Nidhiki had a pair of pincer claws, and he could fire Kanoka disks and blasts of energy from his mouth. He also had the ability to fly.

Nidhiki had considerable talent in thievery. While this allowed for him to forgo the use of the Kanohi Volitak, it also led to him developing difficulty maintaining loyalty to anyone. Shortly after his defection to the Dark Hunters, he attempted to leave but to no avail. His natural skills in stealth allowed him to be an expert in the field even after mutation, leading to successful missions in spite of his increased size and vastly altered appearance.
