The Niazesk were a breed of insect-Rahi.
History[]
The Niazesk species were originally created by Makuta Bitil using viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the species to inhabit the Matoran Universe. Genetically engineered to secrete a powerful enzyme found originally in Skakdi, the Niazesk were intended to chemically reconstitute withered vegetation, along with many other Rahi.
Distributed across the Matoran Universe, the Niazesk revealed themselves to be an ill-tempered breed of Rahi, successfully adapting to several tropical ecosystems around the Great Spirit Robot. Originally intended to keep larger Rahi under control using their venom, the species proved temperamental and could not be domesticated.
A colony of Niazesk was known to have been brought to Karda Nui by Makuta Mutran, who intended for them to be used as test subjects in his experiments. Nesting in the stagnant and mutagenic swamp waters of the Universe Core, these Niazesk were mutated and enlarged to the height of a Toa and came to reside in the Swamp of Secrets, eventually coming into conflict with Toa Takanuva, Gali and Pohatu. Eventually, this colony was wiped out by the Energy Storms in the Universe Core as Mata Nui was reawakened.
Following the Battle of Bara Magna and subsequent Reformation of Spherus Magna, the Matoran Universe's entire Niazesk population was evacuated onto the surface of a new world. It is assumed that the species here returned to its natural habitat.
Abilities and Traits[]
Sharing a similar biology to many of Bitil's Rahi creations, the Niazesk were large Rahi capable of flight. The species inhabited tropical climates across the Matoran Universe, favoring regions of high humidity.
Unlike their Nui-Rama forebears, the Niazesk were equipped with a powerful toxin in their mandibles.
Like most insect-Rahi, Niazesk have two compound eyes, each of which contains thousands of lenses that point in all different directions and move independently.

- The Niazesk was originally a combination model released in 2008, which could be built using parts from Pohatu Phantoka, Vamprah, and Toa Ignika.
- Adapting his Kanohi Mohtrek for his mission to the Universe Core, Makuta Bitil notably shapeshifted a pair of pincers in homage to the Niazesk.
