The Mythology of the MARVELOUS-Verse is a one-shot story written by Lan.
Story[]
In the time before time, the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was above and below the surface of the waters. And from the darkness below there rose a great beast, with many hands and many feet and many teeth, and the beast was called Gah-Dun-Cah. And Gah-Dun-Cah was filled with the darkness below, and possessed a mighty hunger for food and mate, but there was nothing yet in the world to satisfy her, and so she made rage against the outer heavens. And the surface of the waters darkened further with unrest.
And from the darkness above there descended a great being, clad in raiment of white and gray and gold, and the being was called Hapori Tohu. And Hapori Tohu was filled with the light of the outer heavens, and in his great love sought to sate Gah-Dun-Cah's hunger. And with the Life and bounty in his soul he created for her a feast pleasing to the eye and tongue, and he created for her a second beast. And the second beast was clad in wondrous scales of gold and wings of silver, and the second beast was called Kardas. And Hapori Tohu believed that his gifts were good.
But Gah-Dun-Cah found that the gifts given her were not to her desire. And she rejected her feast and cast it aside into the waters. And she rejected Kardas, and feasted on his flesh and cast his bones aside into the waters. And in her anger and her dissatisfaction she turned on Hapori Tohu, and made to slay him. And Hapori Tohu despaired at the rejection of his gifts, and he did not wish to slay Gah-Dun-Cah, for he had a great love of all living things. But Gah-Dun-Cah bit off his arm with her many teeth, and so forced Hapori Tohu to defend himself. And Hapori Tohu fashioned for himself a great falchion of light, and with his falchion he made battle with Gah-Dun-Cah. And the surface of the waters raged with their battle for many millennia.
And Hapori Tohu finally smote Gah-Dun-Cah in the head, and so fierce was his blow that the darkness above cracked, and the light of the outer heavens shone down onto the earth. And with a mighty cry Gah-Dun-Cah perished, and her soul departed for the darkness below, and her blood colored the surface of the waters. And Hapori Tohu despaired at the death of his adversary, for it was his role to preserve Life, and in slaying her had done the opposite.
And Hapori Tohu sought to make right his mistake. Taking the bones from Gah-Dun-Cah's hands and feet he fashioned for himself a new arm. And taking his falchion he split Gah-Dun-Cah's body into twelve pieces, and placed the twelve pieces in a ring upon the surface of the waters. And taking the pieces of his rejected feast he laid them upon the pieces, and he laid Gah-Dun-Cah's teeth upon his feast, and with his breath he covered them all in the Life and bounty in his soul. And the pieces of the body became the twelve lands of the earth, and the feast and the teeth became the plants and the sands and the frosts and the stones and the mountains of the lands. And the light of the outer heavens touched the lands, and they became wondrous to behold. But the Life in them all was tainted, for the darkness of Gah-Dun-Cah's blood was present in each land and in Hapori Tohu's arm, and he did not know this.
And Hapori Tohu found as he freely gave away the power of Life and bounty in his soul, his soul diminished, and he would soon die. And it made him despair in his heart, for there was much on earth he still desired to do. Taking flesh from himself and bones from Kardas, he fashioned for himself three sons who would carry on his tasks on earth. And with his breath he covered them in the last of the Life and bounty in his soul, and gave to them gifts and virtues from the outer heavens.
And the first son was clad in raiment of white, and the first son was called Artakha. To him was given a hammer and a mind of creativity, and he was blessed with the virtue of Unity. And the second son was clad in raiment of gray, and the second son was called Karzahni. To him was given a staff and a mind of justice, and he was blessed with the virtue of Duty. And the third son was clad in raiment of gold, and the third son was called Mata Nui. To him was given a quill and a mind of curiosity, and he was blessed with the virtue of Destiny.
And Hapori Tohu instructed his sons to burn his body and spread his ashes over the lands, and to continue to fill the earth with life and teach it the ways of the outer heavens. And the three sons loved and despaired for their father, for they wished him to stay with them.
But it was not to be, and Hapori Tohu thereafter died.
And Artakha fashioned a pyre from the plants and the sands and the frosts and the stones and the mountains of his father's creation, and it was wondrous to behold. And Karzahni laid his father's body upon the pyre, and took to it a torch. And the embers of the torch rose into the darkness above, and they became the stars in the sky. And Mata Nui gathered his father's ashes and spread them over the lands, and where the ashes touched the lands there sprang up gems of many colors, full of Life and bounty, and they were wondrous to behold.
And the three brothers decided that they would share rule of the twelve lands, and they would take for themselves four lands each. And each brother took for himself one land to the north, and one to the east, and one to the south, and one to the west, and each brother made their home on the land they loved best. Artakha made his home upon Osar, and Karzahni made his upon Zakaz, and Mata Nui made his upon Metru Nui.
And Artakha fashioned for himself a being from a gem that had sprung up from his father's ashes, and a piece of the land he loved best, and with the Life and bounty within the gem the being was made alive, and the being worshipped Artakha. And Karzahni and Mata Nui observed the being, and came to desire to fashion beings of their own. And it came to be that in their homes the three brothers fashioned for themselves beings to fill their lands, and the Life and bounty within the gems and the metals and the stones made the beings thrive best in the harsh beauty of the lands, for the lands were within them. And the three brothers blessed the beings they had fashioned with names, and with protection from the darkness below, and with the ways of the outer heavens. And the three brothers believed that their creations were good.
And Mata Nui found that the beings of the land he loved best, who were called Matoran, were uniform and plain, and in his curiosity he fashioned for himself a Matoran from a piece of the land belonging to Artakha. And the Matoran was found to thrive best in the land from which it was fashioned. And Mata Nui fashioned for himself more Matoran from pieces of the lands of his brothers, and each Matoran was found to thrive best in the land from which it had been fashioned. And Artakha was pleased with Mata Nui's discovery, and in their creativity and curiosity they fashioned beings from all manner of metals and stones, and from all the lands, and sent them to thrive in the lands from which they had been fashioned. But Karzahni refused to partake in his brothers' creativity, and remained creating beings and leaving them in the lands from which they had been fashioned.
And the three brothers decided that they would soon die, and that the beings they had fashioned would be left alone. Taking flesh from themselves and bones from Kardas, and some of the land they loved best, the three brothers fashioned for themselves children who would carry on their tasks on earth, and gave to them gifts and principles from the earth.
And Artakha fashioned for himself a son. And the son was clad in raiment of purple, and the son was called Makuta. To him was given a bellows and a mind of helpfulness, and Artakha raised him in the virtue of Unity and in the principle of Creation. And Makuta lived in the house of his father.
And Karzahni fashioned for himself four sons. And the first son was clad in raiment of blue, and the first son was called Takadox. And the second son was clad in raiment of red, and the second son was called Kalmah. And the third son was clad in raiment of black, and the third son was called Mantax. And the fourth son was clad in raiment of white, and the fourth son was called Pridak. To them were given horns and minds of cunning, and of strategy, and of ambition, and of pride, and Karzahni raised them in the virtue of Duty and in the principle of Prosperity. And Takadox, Kalmah, Mantax, and Pridak lived in the lands of their father.
And Mata Nui fashioned for himself a son, and a daughter, and a son. And the first son was clad in raiment of red, and the first son was called Dume. And the daughter was clad in raiment of blue, and the daughter was called Varian. And the second son was clad in raiment of silver, and the second son was called Krakua. To them were given shields and minds of courage, and of loyalty, and of intelligence, and Mata Nui raised them in the virtue of Destiny and in the principle of Faith. And Dume, Varian, and Krakua lived in the house of their father.
And the earth was peaceful for many years.
But Gah-Dun-Cah's soul remained in the darkness below.
