"Mutant" is a mutated Ko-Matoran turned Dark Hunter, who possesses a burning hatred for the Toa of Plasma Jovak.
Early Life[]
"Mutant" was once a Ko-Matoran scholar hailing from Metru Nui. Prior to his mutation, "Mutant" was recognized as one of the first Matoran to discover the properties of Energized Protodermis, specifically discovering the substance's mutagenic properties. However, a conflict between Cerborran's Toa Team and the Dark Hunters resulted in the destruction of his laboratory and research, with Jovak accidentally harnessing his plasma control to melt an integral support beam, causing the entire lab to collapse. "Mutant" was devastated at the destruction of his life's work, and swore to exact vengeance on the Toa Team, specifically Jovak, in which he solely blamed for the destruction of his lab. Simultaneously, he wanted to re-document his findings and continue researching Energized Protodermis.
Mutation[]
"Mutant" continued his research on Energized Protodermis, taking samples from natural bodies of the substance and bringing them to a new lab. He was collecting samples from different pools of Energized Protodermis to test whether the different environments of Metru Nui caused the substance to take on different properties. He had been collecting a sample from one of the largest pools when Jovak confronted the Ko-Matoran, in which "Mutant" had lashed out at the Toa for ruining his life's work. "Mutant" then began to viciously attack Jovak. In a moment of desperation, the Toa of Plasma pushed "Mutant" into the pool of Energized Protodermis. The substance instantly began to mutate the Ko-Matoran. Once he had emerged from the pool, he knew he had to abandon his old life as a scholar. He cursed Jovak for mutating him into a monster, and vowed to destroy the Toa for ruining his life.
Dark Hunters[]
Seeing as he could no longer return to his old life as a respected scholar, "Mutant" sought after the Dark Hunters to join their ranks. He was accepted into the organization and given his code name. "Mutant" wanted to take any job he could, hoping that he could exact vengeance on the Toa who ruined his life. Unfortunately, he was only assigned on missions to secure or protect an area from threats. On his first mission, he and his group were to patrol an underground network and secure a vital supply line to a Dark Hunter outpost in Metru Nui. By chance, He encountered Jovak and his Toa Team, with Jovak assuming leadership after Cerborran's death. Immediately, the two groups began attacking each other. The conflict left Jovak as the sole survivor of his Toa Team. Instead of efficiently dispatching Jovak, "Mutant" took him to a Visorak Pit, hoping the spider-like Rahi would ensure that the Toa would suffer a painful death. Instead, the Visorak mutated Jovak into a Toa Hordika. Once he had arrived at the outpost, he and his group were praised for defeating the Toa Team, in which The Shadowed One commended "Mutant" for the elimination of a possible future threat to the Dark Hunters. However, "Mutant" was never given any major jobs beyond securing various locations of possible use.
Second encounter with Jovak[]
Shortly after "Mutant"s encounter with Jovak, the Great Cataclysm had begun, which had collapsed the tunnels The Shadowed One had planned to use. In addition to this, Makuta Teridax had killed the Dark Hunters Nidhiki and Krekka, which sparked the Dark Hunters to wage war with the Brotherhood of Makuta. During the war, "Mutant" was assigned to secure an abandoned weapons cache in Ta-Metru. "Mutant" wanted to take on more dangerous jobs, but he was fine being away from the ongoing war. However, he and Jovak crossed paths once again, as the mutated Toa had been searching for a place to hide from the Visorak Horde. "Mutant", who once thought the Toa had died at the hands (or mandibles) of the Visorak, was now determined to slay him once and for all. Jovak had also wanted revenge for his fallen Toa Brothers, his anger amplified by the Hordika Venom he had been poisoned with. "Mutant" thought it would be much easier for his group to deal with the Toa, but Jovak was able to easily defeat all five Dark Hunters, almost killing them. Before he could strike the final blow to "Mutant", however, Jovak was able to come to his senses, realizing that the Hordika Venom was corrupting him. He soon fled from the scene, in search for a cure to reverse his mutations. "Mutant" disappeared shortly after, and has not been seen since.
Personality and Appearance[]
When he was a Matoran, "Mutant" was relatively reserved. He mainly focused on the task at hand, and didn't let anything distract him from finishing his task. This behavior helped motivate him to continue researching Energized Protodermis, as he wanted to know the full extent of the substance's properties. This obsession of finishing a certain task eventually formed into a grudge against Jovak, as he wanted to get even with the Toa for destroying his lab. Once he had been mutated by the Energized Protodermis, "Mutant" wanted nothing more than to destroy the Toa for all of the misfortune that had been brought upon his life. Other than Jovak, "Mutant" was generally neutral to everyone.
Due to his mutation in the pool of Energized Protodermis, "Mutant" possessed many new abilities. While he could not harness any elemental powers, he learned to utilize his new tail, which was effective at striking or constricting enemies. One of "Mutant"s tools had also been mutated by the Energized Protodermis, transforming it into a sword he quickly learned to master. During his mutation, Energized protodermis gathered and hardened on his torso, shoulders, and tail, providing "Mutant" with nearly indestructible armor fused to his body. On top of all this, he sported new appendages on his back similar to Eliminator's Kanoka Launchers.
Facts:[]
- "Mutant"s original code name was "Raider", but it turns out that code name was already in use.
- "Mutant" is kind of general for a code name, considering how many Dark Hunters are mutated beings.
- "Mutant" was made entirely out of pieces before 2006, in order to give him a similar look to the contest winners of the Dark Hunter Building Challenge, who have since been canonized. However, he had been originally built using a 3-stud long pin in blue, which had not appeared until 2007. this pin was later replaced by a 2-stud long pin in black.
