Mirage, originally known as Venator, was a Matoran Hordika who served as a Dark Hunter and mercenary operative.

History[]

Early Life[]

Like all Matoran, Mirage was brought into being on Spherus Magna to aid in construction of the Mata Nui Robot. He was later placed on one of the southern islands after the construct was completed.

Mutation[]

About 40,000 years ago, a Visorak horde swarmed his homeland, attacking the village and killing off nearly everyone inside. Mirage was imprisoned by the spiders within a cocoon. The Visorak left him, and he eventually broke free of the cocoon. But the Hordika Venom effects had set in, mutating him into a monstrosity of Matoran and something else.

Dark Hunters[]

The Hordika venom's usual effect of causing a victim to fall into primal savagery never took in on Mirage, and he was able to wander the universe as a fully sentient, self aware amalgamation. After a few hundred years of wandering, he joined the Dark Hunters.

Abilities and Traits[]

Mirage, like all Hordika, has enhanced physical abilities and senses. Unlike many Hordika victims, he did not succumb to the negative side effects of regressing into a beastlike behavioral pattern.

Personality[]

Mirage is a quiet, reserved, and well-tempered mercenary. He's strong willed, and prefers to do things his way. However, he often changes his mind when he feels that given orders are better than his ideas or he has a great deal of respect to the one giving orders.

After the Visorak attack on his village, Mirage lost a sense of attachment to other beings. He thought that if he ever became overattached to anyone, someone or something could easily eliminate his loved one. This psychological scar often got in the way of making friends, or even associates, with many beings.

Mirage also obeys a self-taught code of honor. He never takes immoral or unkind missions, and will not kill an innocent victim. Theft, however, he seems to have no problem with.

Tools[]

Mirage has a Rhotuka spinner that decimates a target's sense of hope and replaces it with fear. This is often effective against those he plans to assassinate. Mirage also has claws on both of his hands, which can deal more damage than his shortsword at times.

Trivia[]

  • Mirage was originally created for Valentin 98's Dark Hunter Guide Contest.
  • Some aspects of his personality were inspired by the "Thief" from the web comic strip 8-bit Theater.
