The Mask of Vows, also known as the Mask of Promises, is a Kanohi that enables its wearer to establish an unbreakable and binding promise between themselves and another individual. Once the promise is made and sealed, both parties are compelled to fulfill their obligations, and any attempt to break the promise will result in severe physical and mental pain.
To activate the mask's power, the individuals involved must make direct physical contact and clearly express their terms and conditions. The promise can only be closed when both parties willingly agree, and external influences such as mind control render the mask ineffective.
The Mask of Vows cannot be used to cancel or alter existing promises that were made.
History[]
Only four Masks of Vows have ever existed in the history of the Matoran Universe, all of which were created by Makuta Zakkond. Zakkond distributed these masks to influential beings in the hopes of gaining their favor. The initial Mask of Vows was retained by Zakkond himself:
- One mask was sold to the legendary Artakha, renowned for his skill in craftsmanship and creation.
- The final mask was gifted to Vavakx, the ruler of Takiw Nui, as a gesture of friendship.
- The last mask's whereabouts are unknown.
Vavakx's Mask of Vows[]
Zakkond presented Vavakx, the leader of Takiw Nui, with a Mask of Vows. Vavakx kept the mask safely stored within a secret vault along with other significant artifacts in his office.
Following the mass evacuation of the Matoran Universe, Vavakx and the inhabitants of Takiw Nui relocated to New Takiw Nui, bringing with them their precious artifacts, including the Mask of Vows.
