- "It is no secret that all life possesses some primal drive. Very few accept this cold truth, even fewer desire to study it. But once you've unleashed the beast, well... the leash should be the least of your worries."
- ―An inscription from a tablet.
The Mask of Lycanthropy is a Mask of foreign design, and often seen as a symbol the Skull Priestess Mulos.
Description[]
There are few surviving records of the Mask's physical appearance, and all of them tend to conflict with one another in regards to its designs. Many scholars hypnotize that the Mask carried some limited shapeshifting capacities. This is supported by the varieties of forms it can produce for its user.
The Mask was infamous for carrying the power of Lycanthropy, or "Beastblood" as some other societies called it. It allowed the user to transform into a hybrid between their species and the nearest apex predators. Notable physical changes tended to include razor-sharp teeth, claws and talons, wings, beaks, tentacles, pincers, spikes, stingers, and many more. More passive changes included heightened senses. The main drawback was the mental strain from incorporating the augmentations and base instincts of their templates. The more animal-like the transformation, the less mental processing power available for the user. Many have supposedly fallen into their templates mindsets after being overwhelmed by their instincts. More severe cases consisted of users falling into a berserk rampage.
The effectiveness of the Mask depended on the time of day and the lunar cycle. The enhancements were weaker during daytime than night, but were easier to manage. The opposite was true for nighttime, with certain lunar phases making it impossible to control.
Like the other Masks of the Skull Priests, its history is shrouded in mystery. Many legends claim that it belonged to a berserker slain by Mulos in her days as a regular mortal. After the death of her family, she fell into a fit of rage and used the Mask against their suspected killers. Since then it has become fixture in her arsenal. The Mask would remain in her possession until her capture by the Beastmaster. What became of it is currently unknown, though some accounts claim that the entity would go on to bear the Mask himself.
Example Usage[]
Mulos has gone on a rampage with the Mask in a form resembling an undead werewolf during her days as a Priestess.
