The Mask of Fusion was a Kanohi that enabled its bearer to fuse themselves to another living target to create a new form through physical contact.
Typically, any bearer of a Mask of Fusion maintains motor function over the amalgamated life form, though especially strong telepathic minds or intelligence amongst the subjects of the fusion have been known to disrupt the process and even override cortical control. The Kanohi also served a secondary function, enabling the bearer to support unstable fusions.
Notably, Great versions of the Mask of Fusion enabled the bearer to merge with a maximum of six subjects for extended periods of time, whereas Noble versions of the Kanohi limited the fusion to three participants for as long as the mask-bearer could maintain their concentration.
History[]
The Mask of Fusion traces its origins back to some of the earliest mask-making techniques adopted on Spherus Magna, where an unclear number of Masks of Fusion were created for the Matoran populace. At this point in the history of the Matoran Universe, the Mask of Fusion became heavily associated with Ga-Matoran, who historically held great respect for the principle of Unity.
Over time, the Mask of Fusion came to be known as the most practical choice in Kanohi for many Toa of Psionics, who were typically the dominant beings in fusions owing to their enhanced psychic capabilities.
In Metru Nui, a Mask of Fusion could crafted with relative ease using Reconstitute at Random, Enlarge, and Freeze Kanoka disks. Given the ease with which Masks of Fusion could be created, however, the Kanohi became somewhat common in wider Matoran society, though it often fetched for higher prices.
