The Mask of Emulation was a Kanohi that enabled its bearer to replicate the non-Elemental Power based abilities of a subject, duplicating a target's skill set and allowing the wearer to adapt to combat situations.
While activated, the mask allowed the wearer to assimilate physical capabilities of a subject by observing their performance, regardless of complexity. Due to the mnemonic nature of the Mask of Emulation, a user could not emulate weapons, other Kanohi Powers, or natural Rahi powers as this would infringe upon the territory of the Mask of Conjuring and of the Kanohi Faxon. Furthermore, a user had to first witness the desired skill being performed, though the Kanohi itself was capable of retaining information on certain fighting styles and capabilities when activated.
History[]
The Mask of Emulation traces its origins back to some of the earliest mask-making techniques adopted on Spherus Magna, where an unclear number of Masks of Emulation were created for the Matoran populace. At this point in the history of the Matoran Universe, the Mask of Emulation became heavily associated with Vo-Matoran, who held the mask up as a symbol of their adaptive and changeable elemental discipline.
Over the 100,000 year span of the Matoran Universe's functionality, the Mask of Emulation became a somewhat lesser-known Kanohi. In Metru Nui is could be crafted with relative ease using Weaken, Reconstitute at Random, and Poison Removal Kanoka disks, usually originating from Le-Metru. Requiring specific Kanoka disks to manufacture, the Mask of Emulation was a typically uncommon mask in Metru Nui, with only a handful of Mask Makers capable of crafting it successfully.
Toa Hagah Pouks was one notable bearer of the Mask of Emulation, choosing it as his primary Kanohi upon his induction into the ranks of the Brotherhood of Makuta, though this version was crafted in the shape of an unknown Kanohi in reverence to a fallen Toa who had preceded him.
