The Mask Maker's Tool was a device created and once used by the Great Beings to create Kanohi masks. It later found its way onto Powai Nui, where it was juggled between a number of antagonistic organizations and the Kakkan Containment Organization (KCO), who designated it KVM-127.
History[]
Early History[]
The Mask Maker's Tool was created by the Great Beings during the creation of the Matoran Universe. It was used to create a variety of Kanohi, especially those which were hard to make using discs and other conventional mask-making means. At some point, while a Great Being was using the tool, her or she accidentally led to the tool creating the Mask of Catastrophes.
While being stripped of his powers and exiled to the Matoran Universe by his brothers and sisters, the Great Being Jayniss took the Tool with him, along with the Staff of Vortices and the Mask of Catastrophes. Word broke out throughout the universe of the powerful artifacts he carried, and soon, several organizations sought his artifacts. The most notorious of these organizations was the Wraith Syndicate, formed and headed by former Brotherhood of Makuta members Tetradon and Pretadix. They hired several Dark Hunters to pursue Jayniss, chasing him into the Southern Islands and onto the isolated island of Powai Nui. There, Maroona, the island's resident Toa of Lightning, saved Jayniss from his pursuers. The Great Being abandoned his artifacts on the island and left; the Mask Maker's Tool was found some time later by the Po-Matoran adventurer Wreshi, who gave it to the KCO to be contained.

The Mask Maker's Tool allows one to enhance, diminish, manipulate, or nullify the power contained within a Kanohi mask. It could also allow one to utilize a Kanohi's power as if they were wearing it if they were not wearing it, and could also relieve them of much of the mental discipline it otherwise took to activate a Kanohi's power. The tool was intended to be used by Great Beings, however, who had a vast understanding of Kanohi. As such, those who were not skilled in using it were unable to use the tool without causing side effects of varying severity.
