Marendar (Wasteverse)[]
The Marendar is a purely mechanical entity created by the Great Beings with the sole objective of neutralizing the threat of the Toa, if they were ever to revolt against their creators. It has somehow activated and is now searching for Toa to destroy.
History[]
Creation[]
Soon after the creation of the first Toa, the Great Beings realized the free will they had granted the Toa could lead to chaos if they ever rebelled against their creators. As a safeguard, The Great Beings constructed a machine they called Marendar, the Agori word for "Salvation". It was sealed away in a vault shortly after it's creation, ready to activate if the Toa ever rebelled.
Escape[]
100,000 years later, once Mata Nui had successfully restored Spherus Magna, the Marendar somehow activated and destroyed its vault, roaming the planet in search of Toa to destroy.
Displacement[]
As suddenly as it had activated, the Marendar seemed to have disappeared from Spherus Magna. For a while it was thought to have been destroyed, until Skrop's Village began reporting sightings of a large silver figure aimlessly roaming the woods. Upon hearing these rumors, Deralk immediately pleaded with the village Turaga to set precautions for those wishing to venture out into the great forest.
Features[]
The Marendar is a large mechanical being in appearance, with a prominently silver color scheme. It's armor is made of an unidentifiable form of Protodermis able to withstand all elemental powers.
To prevent the Marendar from rebelling against the Great Beings itself, it was built with no forms of advanced intelligence or personality, guided only by the sole directive of eliminating the Toa. Despite this, the Marendar has the ability to quickly analyze its situation and adapt to the best possible outcome, in a sense "creatively thinking" if it's ever in a difficult situation.
Trivia[]
- This version of the Marendar is quite different from the Marendar in the official Bionicle canon:
- While the canon Marendar is described as being an intelligent, biomechanical being, this version is almost the complete opposite; a pure machine with no greater forms of independent thought.
- While the canon version was activated due to an increase in Toa energy on Spherus Magna, I'd imagine this Marendar would be activated from an order or command given to its central computer.
- The design for the Marendar's head was inspired by ancient Glatorian helmets worn by law enforcement. The helmet was made empty to reflect its cold, impersonal nature.
- In this way, it shares similarities with the Vahki of Metru Nui.
- the word "Marendar" can be used to both describe the machine and it's model, meaning that it can be referred to as both "Marendar" and "The Marendar"
- When the Marendar arrived near Skrop's village, it's ability to track Toa energy signatures was damaged, forcing it to rely on visuals to identify and pursue Toa.
