- "Does this guy really think that putting a giant singing chainsaw headed horse in my way will stop me? I think it's time he gets to know me better"
- ―Mantle, Trials of the Limestone Valley
Mantle was once a Ta-Matoran of the Matoran Universe. Like all Matoran, he migrated into Spherus-Magna. During the Great Being Civil War, he was chosen by an unnamed Great Being to act as a distraction against the Baterra. He would later become a guardsmen-in-training near the mining site of Ores Nui before a mysterious gemstone transformed him into a Toa of Fire.
History[]
Mantle, like many other Matoran, aided in the creation of the Mata Nui robot. Not much of note happened with him on Aqua Magna. As he later migrated to Spherus Magna and the Great Being Civil War raged on, he would be selected by a Great Being purely by chance to use his Kanohi against the Baterra. Mantle saw it as a great opportunity for himself to prove his worth while on the contrary he was nothing more than a guinea pig by one Great Being in their desperate attempt to find methods to combat Velika. His mask power made him a major target for Marendar, but thanks, largely due to luck, Mantle managed to survive the worst of the war. Having been granted a useless task to search through what was once the valley of the Skrall, he had played a pivotal role in disrupting a great deal of Baterran forces and was privately shepherd an close ally by those he had forged bonds with during the conflict. Having survived the war and high on his hubris, the Ta-Matoran would enroll to become a guardsman at the an extraction site where a massive asteroid landed shortly after called Ores Nui. During this time, his mask power had become useless to him, but still Mantle would find himself a shell who once relied on his mask power. His obsession with proving himself made him rather unpopular with many of the villagers and quickly grew into the longest existing-in-training recruit of Ores Nui.
Toa Escavo[]
By this point, disappearances had been occurring in Ores Nui. Mantle overheard two Matoran discussing of going back into the rock around the same point in time the rock was being planned to shut down. Dazzled by a potential redemption of his less than stellar performance in the guard, Mantle was quick to offer aid of sneaking into the asteroid. Although split on bringing the Ta-Matoran given his reputation, their desperation eventually led them to agree to bring Mantle. Once inside the mines a close encounter with a seemingly strange and aggressive silver rahi led the trio to get lost. It was then when one of them by the name of Zystetus, who heard a strange ringing followed the sound. The sound led them a 4 colored crystals. Upon touching one, Mantle was transformed into a Toa of Fire.
Abilities and Traits[]
Mantle is your stereotypical quick-tempered Ta-Matoran, he often acted before he gave thought to any of his efforts. However, Mantle has been known to hold the Toa Code the strongest out of anyone in Toa Escavo. He's quick to recite parts of the code to remind his brothers and sister when they stepped out of line.
He was never one to step away from a fight, even when he was on the losing end. Liroau often sneered about how often he refuses to give up but the Toa of Fire only met such statements with pride. Mehnera often mentions how simple-minded the Toa of Fire is. The idea frequently reinforced whenever the team faces anything technical. Mantle has also remained the one most fervent to use his mask, despite this, he has the greatest trouble of activating his mask power from the group.
Mantle wields a Molten-Fueled Jevac-Hammer. Originally transformed from his sword, it allows the Toa of Fire to not only dish out fire-empowered sword strikes, but to quickly carve through the tough rock of Ores Nui.
Mantle's Kanohi as a Matoran was the Kanohi Creless, the Mask of Detection. It allowed him to send out electro-magnetic signals which dampened the senses of foes who also relied on electro-magnetic signals. Transformed by a Toa crystallite, it completely changed into the Kanohi Vaahd, the Mask of Confusion, allowing Mantle to disrupt the senses of his foes.
Like all Toa of Fire, Mantle is capable of emitting fire-blasts, fireballs, and absorbing flames. Mantle also sports good heat resistance.
Trivia[]
