Mallake is an ancient being and former leader of the Hand of Artakha.

History[]

Core Universe[]

Mallake was created by the Great Beings as the first of the Tirivon race. A race distinguished by their tallness and distinctive horns, the Tirivon were initially intended to serve as protectors for the Matoran, with Mallake being place in charge of the Hand of Artakha organization. For two hundred years the Hand watched over the Matoran Universe as it neared completion. However, it soon became apparent that the Hand caused more trouble than good, with Mallake failing to properly discipline his teammates. As such, the Hand of Artakha was promptly disbanded, even though Mallake was against such a move.

Not long after, Toa Helryx formed the Order of Mata Nui to replace the Hand of Artakha and recruited several of her former teammates. Mallake, however, refused to accept Helryx's Order as a proper replacement and attempted to wrestle control from the Toa of Water. He was swiftly overwhelmed by the others and was immediately banished to the Pit, becoming its first prisoner.

For several millennia, Mallake was confined to the Pit, only learning of outside events from other prisoners. When Makuta Teridax felled the Great Spirit Mata Nui, the dome to the Pit was shattered and several of the prisoners managed to escape, including Mallake. While the Barraki proceeded to establish their domain, Mallake kept a low profile, hoping to somehow make it back to the surface.

Several centuries after the Great Cataclysm, the coastal city of Mahri Nui was formed, creating an anchor between it and Voya Nui. Navigating the labyrinth Cord, Mallake made it to the surface of Voya Nui, where he was immediately confronted by Axonn. Mallake attempted to coerce his former comrade into helping him but Axonn would have none of it. Axonn promptly summoned Botar and Mallake was taken to Daxia, where he was imprisoned in the Order of Mata Nui's main fortress.

It was in the prison rooms of the Daxia Fortress that Mallake spent the remainder of his life. Even when the Order mobilized against the Makuta, Helryx refused to free him even for the most desperate of measures. When Makuta Teridax took over the Great Spirit's body, he leveled the Daxia Fortress and killed all within, including Mallake. It is unknown if Mallake was subsequently revived by the Red Star.

Empire of Makuta Universe[]

When the Brotherhood of Makuta expanded into an empire, the reformed Hand of Artakha accelerated its plans to free Mallake and set fort on Voya Nui. Meanwhile, Mallake made contact with Makuta Krika, who had grown disillusioned with the Makuta's plans and agreed to help Mallake make it back to the surface, allowing him to take control of the Hand from "King" Mathus. After a quick confrontation with the Order of Mata Nui, Mallake and his followers used Brutaka's Kanohi Olmak and traveled to the Tren Krom Peninsula. There they established their domain with the help of Makuta Krika and set their sights on the island of Artakha.

Using the Olmak, Mallake and his forces intervened with the Makuta's invasion on Artakha, with Mallake doing battle with Makuta Icarax. However, both Mallake and Icarax were swiftly defeated by Makuta Teridax, who banished both to the dungeons of Destral. Meanwhile, Botar arrived and took the remaining Hand members to the Pit.

Abilities and Traits[]

Like all Tirivon, Mallake stood at roughly nine-feet-tall, towering over most beings who served the Hand of Artakha.

Masks and Tools[]

Mallake wears the Kanohi Mask of Shadow Travel, which allows him to travel through shadows in a similar manner to his former comrade Shadow Stealer. After Mallake was mutated by the effects of the Pit's waters, his mask retained its powers. In both the Core and the Empire of Makuta Universes, Mallake's mask was taken and/or destroyed when he was imprisoned, preventing him from using it to escape.
