- "Help? I don’t need your help. I don’t need anyone’s help. Now get the hell back in that ship and let me leave in peace."
- ―Kyros to Dekar, Rock Bottom
Kyros is a Ko-Matoran from Metru Nui who was injured in a Chute accident. He eventually ended up in Mahri Nui, where he lived for ten years before the Kanohi Ignika came into his possession.
History[]
Kyros was a scholar in the Ko-Metru Knowledge Towers. While still arrogant and high-minded, during this time it would be possible to describe him as a relatively agreeable Matoran. However, while riding a chute he was attacked by a swarm of Nui-Rama, threatening to destroy the section he was in. Through unclear circumstances, Kyros managed to escape but was severely injured as a result.
No longer able to perform his duties, Kyros was sent to Karzahni, expecting to be healed and sent back to the Knowledge Towers. Instead he was "fixed", poorly rebuilt into a shorter, weaker version of his old self. Disgusted by his failure, Karzahni sent the "fixed" matoran to the Southern Continent as to keep his mistakes hidden. Equipping each of the Matoran with a pair of weapons and a new Kanohi, they were shipped off to the most sparsely inhabited part of the continent. Kyros' anger at his new form and loss of status began to take over him. He became increasingly narcissistic and greedy as the trip progressed, his old and more reasonable self slowly dying away.
Mahri Nui[]
Kyros ended up in the region of the Continent that would become Voya Nui, where he lived until the Great Cataclysm launched that island out to the surface of the Endless Ocean. Kyros settle in the village of Mahri Nui, the fastest growing of the various settlements formed by the Matoran of Voya Nui.
Not long after the Great Cataclysm another disaster struck. The stretch of cooled volcanic stone that Mahri Nui was built on gave out, causing the city to plunge into the Voya Nui Bay to the sea floor at the base of the Cord. Kyros was one of the few hundred survivors of the plunge, and during the few seconds sprang exposed to the mutagen had gained a larger, stronger and sleeker body along with the other matoran. He helped in the reconstruction of many damaged structures, albeit reluctantly.
Years later Kyros was elected to be the Council Leader for a month, officiating mettings of the Mahri Nui council and enacting the decisions of such meetings. The first council meeting he ran with this position was interrupted twice: first by Defilak arriving late and then by Gemini, who informed Dekar of the Vampire Squid attack on Kyrehx. Dekar and Defilak would both the council chamber mid-meeting, much to Kyros' annoyance.
Later, Kyros requested to meet with Dekar's second-in-command, Idris, hoping to learn more about Dekar's spontaneous mission to the Black Water. Idris told him what little she knew, but Kyros still felt he was being left out. During this meeting, Lemiddus interrupted looking for Idris to show her the Kanohi Ignika. When it became clear the Ignika was affecting Lemiddus' behavior, Idris and Kyros attempted to take it from him. However, Lemiddus had been cursed by the Ignika to discharge massive amounts of electrical energy when anything touched him, and Kyros was blasted against the wall and killed. Idris was forced to flee without helping Kyros by the fire, only sending in Aescela and Gemini to check on him after they arrived with water to put out the fire. Aescela checked on Kyros and confirmed him to be dead.
Life After Death[]
But Kyros was not dead, at least, not in an traditional sense. Iiliara had subtly manipulated the Ignika's power to revive him as part of her own mysterious plans. Kyros slowly regained consciousness while his body rebooted after the jolt of energy. When Gemini attempt to pick up his "corpse," the Su-Matoran was hurled against the wall with a blast of golden energy. Kyros regained control of his body, realizing that he now possessed immense amounts of power to produce and control these blasts of energy. However, using these powers used the same energy that was keeping him "alive," and he would need to find more if he wanted to keep using them. Kyros attempted to ask the near-dead Gemini where Lemiddus had gone, but when the Su-Matoran had nothing to tell him Kyros left him for dead and went off to search for himself.
He found Lemiddus in Defilak's warehouse workshop, attempting to destroy the Ignika. Kyros moved to stop him, and the two fought to a stand off. But the untimely return of Dekar's expedition allowed Kyros to gain the upper hand and blast Lemiddus. Another stand off between Kyros and Dekar followed, with Kyros threatening to kill Lemiddus if Dekar did not return to the submersible and leave him in peace. Dekar refused, and Kyros blasted Lemiddus one finally time before fleeing the warehouse with the Ingika, only briefly stopped by Defilak attempting to stop him with a Thornax Launcher. The unexpected explosion of the Thornax fruit gave Kyros the opening he needed to escape.
Several hours later, in the shelter of an air pocket in a cave somewhere near Mahri Nui, Iiliara reached out to Kyros for the first time and suggested they temporarily work together to escape Mahri Nui and return to the rest of the Matoran Universe. While unnerved by the concept of working with a being who had complete access to his thoughts and memories, Kyros agreed, planning to get rid of Iiliara and the Ignika as soon as he had no further need of them.
Personality and Traits[]
Kyros is an arrogant, greedy matoran who sees himself as superior to those around him. He uses his past as a scholar in Ko-Metru, a post of great renown and respect, as proof of his higher stature. He is very outspoken about these beliefs and never misses a chance to remind his 'less-intelligent' comrades of his place. He's also prone to holding grudges against others for even the smallest slights, such as his distaste for Gemini after the Su-Matoran interrupted his first meeting as Council Leader.
After being revived by Iiliara, Kyros' attitude grew more aggressive, willing to maim and kill other Matoran to get what he wants. He sees the Ignika and the power it can grant him as his ticket back to his old life in Metru Nui.
Powers and Equipment[]
Being a Ko-Matoran, Kyros has a natural resistance to cold. After Mahri Nui sunk into the Voya Nui Bay, the small amount of mutagen he was exposed to gave him a stronger, sleeker form more suited to his new environment. Originally Kyros wore a Kanohi Arthron, though upon his arrival in Karzahni this was replaced with a Noble Rau. Kyros currently wears a stylized Mask of Clairvoyance he commissioned from Izer while he lived on Voya Nui. While he rarely put himself in situations where he would need them, he did possess a pair of Electro-Blades.
Upon his revival by the energies of the Kanohi Ignika, Kyros was granted the ability to dispense the energy that kept him alive at will in the form of powerful and destructive energy blasts. Doing so weakens him, and if he expels too much energy he will not have enough to sustain his body and will ultimately die. In order to prevent this, he can absorb energy from other sources, such as lightstones or the Ignika itself.
