Kulta is the commander of Makuta's army of Skull Creatures. He was a merciless fighter who had a hatred for masks. Because of this, he was often referred to as "Skull Grinder".
History[]
After Makuta, who had just put on the Mask of Ultimate Power, was defeated, a shadow of death and fear began to spread over Okoto. It gave rise to several different kinds of undead Skull Creatures. These creatures answered to no one, and only sought to destroy until the Dark Masters brought Makuta back to life. While Makuta sent his toa to retrieve his Mask of Control, he still desired to either have possession of the Mask of Creation, or to see it destroyed. So he created a special Skull Creature capable of controlling the hordes plaguing the island, named him Kulta, and sent him and the Skull Creatures to Undique, City of the Mask Makers, where the Mask of Creation was being held.

Makuta paid little attention to Kulta's quest, as he expected the Skull Creatures to have very litte difficulty in obtaining the Mask of Creation, as he was far more interested in observing the behavior of his toa, and as he had little interest in watching the cruel Skull Creatures slaughter the villagers in Undique. However, Makuta was unaware of the presence of Ekimu's six toa, the Mata, on Okoto, and that they were also heading to Undique to revive their creator. Kulta and his army were thus left on their own in the city to deal with the toa and Ekimu. The Skull Creatures were devastated, and Kulta was presumably killed in the Mask Makers Forge by Ekimu after attempting to destroy the Mask of Creation. It has been speculated that his undead state and the extra power granted to him by Makuta has allowed him to endure, but whether or not there is any truth to this remains to be seen.
Abilities and Traits[]
As an undead Skull creature, Kulta has a resistance to pain, above- average strength, a cold and focused demeanor. The extra powers granted to him by Makuta increase these attributes. He was also had a telepathic link with the other Skull Creatures, and has the ability to use this link to control them. Kulta has an unusual hatred for masks, which may be a result of his personality being fueled by his mission to destroy the Mask of Creation. As a fighter, Kulta is ferocious, using his speed and size to his advantage. He was able to fight all six Toa Mata at once, and even held his own against Ekimu.
