"I tell you this -- You Toa Nuva are here to reawaken Mata Nui, a mission that requires all six of you. I tell you that if you do that, you and everything you know will be doomed to a future more horrible than you can imagine. Leave now and the future cannot come to pass."
―Makuta Krika urging Toa Gali to leave Karda Nui

Krika was the Makuta of the northern region of the Northern Continent and a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta.

Biography[]

Krika was created by Mata Nui alongside the other Makuta from a greenish-black liquid on an island in one the Southern Chains of the Matoran Universe. Alongside the rest of his species, he became a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta, an organization tasked with maintaining order and carrying out the will of Mata Nui.

Krika was responsible for the creation of several Rahi breeds to populate the Matoran Universe during this early period, often creating more territorial but less prominent Rahi breeds, such as the Dagger Spider. Displaying some talent in the area, Krika never fully committed to the role of Rahi Creator, however, possessing more interest in other disciplines.

After the Matoran Civil War, Krika was assigned to supervise the northern region of the Northern Continent by Makuta Miserix, who felt he was the least likely Makuta to interfere in the delicate affairs of the local Matoran.

From time-to-time, a De-Matoran named Sonitous would deliver supplies to Krika on behalf of his village as a token of appreciation for his watchful eye over their region, which Krika would use in his experiments.

When Teridax demanded a Convocation to be held on Destral in order to reveal his plan and take over the Brotherhood, Krika was one of the final Makuta to side with Teridax and was later charged with executing Miserix alongside Spiriah. In secret, however, the two Makuta remained loyal to their old leader and facilitated his escape from the island, transporting him to Artidax in the hopes that Miserix would one day be able to return should Teridax disrupt the delicate balance of power in the Matoran Universe.

Like all other Makuta, Krika's Antidermis evolved to a gaseous virus-like state where he no longer required sleep or sustenance. Teridax ordered the Nynrah Ghosts to Destral to modify the Makuta's armor to accommodate this evolution.

In the months after Spiriah was excommunicated from the Brotherhood of Makuta, Krika was assigned to supervise the island of Zakaz. Unbeknownst to the other Makuta, however, Krika harbored Spiriah on the Northern Continent in secret. Spiriah would later entreat Krika to claim ownership over Artidax in his stead, fearful that if another Makuta discovered the location of Miserix it would mean his execution.

After a lengthy period of monitoring Zakaz, Makuta Scarla was briefly assigned to observe Krika's territory in his absence. Unaware of her irrational paranoia, Sonitous once delivered Scarla a basket of food that she was convinced was poisoned. She responded by abducting Sonitous and interrogating him for three days to find out who he was working for, before Krika returned and set him free. Despite Krika's interference, the tale of Sonitous' experience with Scarla ultimately tainted his village's perception of Makuta.

Great Cataclysm[]

1000 years ago, the Brotherhood of Makuta would finally set in motion Teridax's Grand Plan, with Makuta simultaneously launching an unexpected assault upon the processors of the Matoran Universe, disabling Mata Nui and causing the Great Spirit Robot to crash on Aqua Magna. With Mata Nui now distinctly absent and the Matoran Universe debilitated by Makuta Teridax's efforts, the Brotherhood revealed itself as a decidedly malevolent organization making a bid for universal domination.

During the Dark Times, Krika notably remained on the Northern Continent, supervising the region and conducting research into Teridax's Plan. As such, Krika took a less active role in the advancement of the Brotherhood of Makuta, occasionally supplying Rahkshi to offensive efforts. Proving more reserved than his contemporaries, Krika thus built a reputation for himself as one of Teridax's most reliable lieutenants.

Invasion of Karda Nui[]

Comic Krika

Krika in the Swamp of Secrets, mutated by Mutagen.

Following his apparent death in the Mangaia lair, Teridax was able to advance his plan without the interference of the Toa Nuva, issuing Krika and several of his surviving Makuta lieutenants a series of tasks to complete in the Universe Core. Charged principally with opposing the Toa Nuva as they journeyed to the Codrex, Krika accompanied Antroz, Vamprah, Chirox, Bitil, Gorast, and Mutran to Karda Nui.

Venturing down to the Swamp of Secrets beneath the Stalactite Villages, Krika took command over Gorast and Bitil and set up a defensive perimeter around the Codrex, awaiting the arrival of the Toa Nuva. Assuming a more insectoid form, Krika was eventually exposed to Pit Mutagen, however, and lost the ability to shapeshift.

Following the arrival of the Toa Nuva in Karda Nui and subsequent destruction of the Shadow Leech Laboratory, however, Toa Tahu, Onua, and Gali descended to the Swamp of Secrets. Wary of the Toa in their weakened forms, the Makuta elected to trail a target each, with Krika shadowing Toa Tahu.

Following the Toa of Fire deep into the Swamp of Secrets, Krika revealed himself once Tahu had weakened himself by striking the Energy Field of the Codrex. After provoking the Toa by lamenting the fate of the Toa Nuva, Krika was tricked into standing on a patch of swamp that had been super-heated by Tahu's Elemental Powers. Forced to cease his attack, Krika recoiled, enabling Tahu to escape.

Regrouping with Gorast and Bitil at the Makuta Camp, Krika and his allies were assaulted by several bursts of Elemental Energy. Venturing off the investigate the source of the Elemental attack, Krika left the camp fully aware that the Toa were within the vicinity. Returning to catch the Toa in the compromising position within their camp, the Makuta cornered their quarry in a tense standoff. With Toa Tahu warning the Makuta that the rest of his team had possession of the Kanohi Ignika, Bitil sent a telepathic message to Antroz, Chirox and Vamprah, who informed that the Ignika had in fact taken form and had defeated Makuta Icarax.

Comic Makuta Krika Absorbing Energy

Beating a retreat to safe-guard the Codrex and fulfill their objective, Krika and his fellow Makuta continued to oppose the Toa. Laying in wait for his adversaries, Krika once against engaged Tahu, utilizing his Density Control abilities to gain an edge in the battle. Misdirecting the Toa, Krika attempted to convince his adversary that Bitil had already found a way to disperse the Energy Field surrounding the Codrex and that the Toa were too late. Unwilling to accept defeat, Tahu struck Krika with a projectile launched from his Nynrah Ghost Blaster, temporarily restraining the Makuta in place.

Eventually freeing himself, Krika witnessed the remaining Makuta and Toa from Karda Nui ventured down to the Swamp of Secrets to provide reinforcements. Reunited with Antroz, Chirox, Vamprah, Mutran and a severely weakened Icarax, Krika cornered Toa Gali and transported her away from the battlefield. Entreating the Toa of Water to retreat from the Universe Core in order to escape the dark fate that awaited the Toa Nuva, Gali heeded Krika's words until the arrival of Toa Takanuva, who entered the Universe Core through a dimensional portal and was promptly enhanced by the energies of Karda Nui. Forced to retreat, Krika later regrouped with the Makuta, who were ultimately unable to prevent the Toa from entering the Codrex.

While Teridax had ordered his lieutenants to allow the Toa Nuva to complete their destiny by awakening Mata Nui, Icarax soon made clear his intentions to destroy the Toa and rebel against Teridax, believing that Mata Nui would destroy the Makuta for their rebellion if he awakened, convincing Krika to phase through the force field and deactivate it. Before Icarax could destroy the Codrex with his Gravity powers, however, he was halted by Vamprah, Mutran and Gorast, who remained committed to Teridax's scheme. Falling victim to a mental assault from Mutran, Icarax attempted to teleport inside the Codrex to face the Toa himself, only for Gorast to use her Kanohi Felnas to disrupt his Teleportation. Blasted by one of Vamprah's Shadow bolts, Icarax was teleported on a molecular level, distributing his atoms across the Universe Core and killing him in the process.

Having witnessed the brutal murder of Icarax, Krika appealed to his teammates to see reason. After revealing his conscience and attempting to convince his fellow Makuta to abandon Teridax's scheme, Krika was assaulted by Gorast, who used the powers of her Felnas to disrupt his Density Control powers. Unable to control his atomic composition, Krika became increasingly intangible and eventually faded from existence as a result.

Abilities and Traits[]

Compared to other Makuta, Krika possessed honorable and compassionate traits. As an outspoken critic of Teridax's Plan, Krika was one of the few Makuta who recognized the treacherous potential of the Brotherhood's leader, though he kept his concerns largely private and was forced to assist. Upon entering the Swamp of Secrets, Krika came to realize that Teridax's Plan would have a detrimental impact on the Matoran Universe and took measures to sabotage the efforts of the Makuta. Eventually coming to realize the true extent of Teridax's looming treachery, Krika was eventually executed for confiding such doubts in his fellow Makuta loyalists.

As a Makuta, Krika possessed powerful elemental Shadow powers, abilities which after many centuries of use, he had fully mastered. He could even use his Shadow powers to heal others, should he feel it necessary. He also possessed shape-shifting abilities, Kraata production, great strength, and the forty-two Kraata powers. Characteristically, Krika relied upon his Density Control capabilities to become intangible, using the power more often than his other abilities.

Following his exposure to Pit Mutagen in the Swamp of Secrets, Krika notably lost access to several of his natural capabilities, including shapeshifting. As a result of his mutation, Krika's use of Density Control made his composition unstable, requiring him to absorb heat in order to remain vitalized.

Tools and Masks[]

For the majority of his life, Krika wore a Kanohi Crast, Great Mask of Repulsion, a Kanohi that enabled him to create a charged Repulsion Field around himself, repelling an object or assailant with tremendous force. Krika notably used this Kanohi to achieve flight.

Sporting a wide arsenal of Protosteel weaponry over the centuries, Krika armed himself principally with his bladed appendages, which served as both defensive and offensive tools capable of channeling his Shadow powers. In addition, Krika was equipped with a Nynrah Ghost Blaster, a weapon that enabled him to take control of any mechanical object that he fired at, though the effect was temporary and faded over time.

Known Forms[]

Picture Form
Antidermis was the "essence" of Krika. It was a greenish-black energy that was contained inside his armor, and if leaked, it could float as mist over the air and be collected. However, the energy would dissipate after a period of time.
The form which Krika took during the invasion of the Universe Core. In this form, Krika notably used his bladed forearms as legs and sported a Nynrah Ghostblaster.
