Kopeke was a Ko-Matoran from Metru Nui, who became a prominent Ice Carver in Ko-Koro and later Chronicler of Metru Nui.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

As a Ko-Matoran, Kopeke began his life on Spherus Magna, where he aided in the construction of the Matoran Universe. He was later placed in Ko-Metru with a small community of Matoran, endeavoring to carry out his purpose as a Chute Attendant.

Sometime after the implementation of the Vahki as a fully mechanized law enforcement entity, Kopeke became increasingly anxious, growing deeply concerned by the presence of Vahki Keerakh in Ko-Metru and uncomfortable with their brand of oversight.

With universal attitudes towards Toa growing increasingly contentious, the Dark Hunters made a number of attempts to seize a regional foothold in Metru Nui, which ultimately resulted in the organization declaring war on the local Toa Mangai by invading the northern-most island in the Matoran Universe. Arming himself with a Kanoka Disk Launcher, Kopeke took shelter from the conflict alongside his Ko-Matoran neighbors, staying out of the line of fire and evading the Dark Hunter anarchists.

With the remaining Toa Mangai disappearing in rapid succession, Toa Lhikan grew wise to the Dark Hunter plot and the intentional spread of the Morbuzakh. Mistrustful of Turaga Dume, the Toa of Fire looked to the stars and saw the names of six Matoran written among them. Reviving the ancient practice of creating Toa Stones, Lhikan imbued his Toa Power within the stones then transported them to the six Matoran: Vakama, Nokama, Onewa, Matau, Nuju, and Whenua, in the hopes that they could succeed where he and his fellow Toa Mangai had failed. Unaware that Makuta Teridax had abducted the Turaga and assumed his form, however, the Toa were branded as public enemies and the Makuta ordered the Vahki to detail them through his guise as Turaga Dume.

A matter of weeks later, notably after the Toa Metru had been branded fugitives of the law and the Matoran had turned on them, Kopeke was summoned to the Coliseum by the Vahki, along with the rest of the population of Metru Nui. Once he arrived, Kopeke was confronted by a squadron of Vahki and placed inside a Matoran Sphere, his anxieties of rogue automation fully realized. Entering into a comatose state, Kopeke became dormant and was rendered unable to carry out his task of maintaining Ko-Metru. With the entire population of the island similarly incapacitated, Makuta Teridax set in motion a chain of events that debilitated the Great Spirit Robot and transferred the seat of power to himself. During his time inside the sphere, his body reduced in size, and all his previous memories were erased. Kopeke's size and physical strength were also reduced as a consequence of his Matoran Sphere.

Mata Nui[]

After being awakened by the Toa Metru on Naho Bay, Kopeke aided in the construction of Ko-Koro using Airship parts under Turaga Nuju's direction. With his memory erased and his body notably shrunken due to prolonged stasis, Kopeke began a new profession as an Ice Carver.

Enjoying a year of peace, the progress of the Matoran was notably hindered by the arrival of Makuta Teridax on the island, however, who used Infected Kanohi to corrupt the island's Rahi population. Relentlessly hounded by Rahi attacks and earthquakes, Kopeke came to situate himself in Ko-Koro, rarely traveling beyond the Drifts for fear of the Muaka.

Over the course of the next 1000 years, Kopeke and his fellow Ko-Matoran would thus construct the Three Brothers Bridge and the Gate of Ice, which were built to reinforce the defenses around the village as hostile Rahi continued to encroach on the village.

Kopeke was among a number of Ko-Matoran villagers who witnessed the arrival of Toa Kopaka in Ko-Koro. With the Toa Mata arriving on the island, the Rahi attacks increased in their frequency, prompting the Ko-Matoran to defend their village from threats such as Hikaki, Vako, Kane-Ra and Muaka with limited success.

When the Toa succeeded in their quest to collect their Golden Kanohi and descended into the Mangaia tunnels, Kopeke joined the Chronicler's Company to defend the entrance to Kini Nui from the Infected Rahi, holding the line until the Matoran defence forces could arrive. In one final battle, the Matoran emerged victorious, finally freeing the Rahi from Makuta's mental influence and restoring balance to Mata Nui in the process.

However, with the Bohrok Swarms prematurely awoken by Makuta, the Matoran villages were plunged into chaos once more. In Ko-Koro, Kopeke and his fellow Ko-Matoran struggled to repel a Tahnok platoon intent on melting the glacier in which Ko-Koro was situated. With the assistance of Toa Kopaka, the Matoran would repel the Bohrok from their village.

Following the Bohrok Invasion and the defeat of the Bohrok Kal, Kopeke was rebuilt into a form resembling the one he had held before being confined in a Matoran Sphere. After representing Ko-Koro as a Kolhii Champion alongside Matoro, Ko-Koro lost their first match and did not progress to the Kolhii Championship.

Return to Metru Nui[]

Later, after the defeat of Teridax by Takanuva, Kopeke aided in the construction of boats to return to Metru Nui when the island city was rediscovered. Landing in the city alongside the entire population of Mata Nui, Kopeke helped repair Ko-Metru and the rest of the island, acclimatizing to his role in the Archives with some difficulty.

Several days after his arrival, however, word reached the Matoran that the Toa Nuva had left the island on a dangerous mission for reasons unknown. Upon discovering this news, Jaller instigated a silent protest, entreating the island's entire Matoran population to lay down their tools until the Turaga revealed the nature of the mission. Kopeke notably took part in this protest, refusing to update the Archives database with any new Rahi information discovered over the course of the Dark Times. Eventually, however, the protest ceased and Kopeke returned to work.

Some time after the return of Takanuva, Metru Nui would be suffer a minor Frostelus attack, though the Matoran were able to repel the reptillian creatures with little instruction from the Turaga, a feat they would not have been able to achieve in the past without their experiences on Mata Nui. In recognition of his heroic efforts during the Frostelus Invasion, Kopeke would be appointed as the Chronicler of Metru Nui.

Several weeks later, the five remaining Toa Mahri were teleported to Metru Nui from the Pit, where they were greeted by the Turaga and Kopeke. The return of the Toa Mahri also heralded the revelation that Matoro had sacrificed himself to restore life to the Great Spirit. It would be Kopeke's unfortunate responsibility to interview the Toa Mahri and record the sacrifice of his old friend.

Teridax's Reign[]

When Teridax took control of the Matoran Universe, Kopeke notably escaped Metru Nui and traveled to the ruins of Karzahni. He would then join a small pocket of the resistance, which comprised of Toa Tahu, Lariska, Johmak, Krahka, and "Guardian". Aware of the resistance forces massing across the Matoran Universe, however, Makuta Teridax ambushed the group of rebels with a platoon of Exo Toa before commanding the ground to open beneath "Guardian" before closing it again, crushing the Dark Hunter in the process. Rescued by Toa Onua, Kopeke witnessed the Toa of Earth use his Elemental Powers to destabilize the ground beneath the Exo Toa.

Kopeke and his fellow Matoran were later freed of Teridax's tyranny when he was killed in the Battle of Bara Magna, sustaining heavy damage to his body. Kopeke and all the other surviving residents of Metru Nui, which suffered severe damage, evacuated the city and relocated to Spherus Magna to begin a new life.

Abilities and Traits[]

Similarly to all other Ko-Matoran, Kopeke possessed a minuscule degree of control over the elemental discipline of Ice, though he could not access Elemental Powers or utilize a Great Kanohi. Additionally, he was accustomed to colder temperatures and higher altitudes.

Masks and Tools[]

For the majority of his life, Kopeke wore a Kanohi Komau, though this mask would later be damaged and replaced with a Matatu.

While residing on Metru Nui, Kopeke was known to wield a Kanoka Disk Launcher, which he notably left behind in Ko-Metru.

After settling in Ko-Koro, Kopeke fashioned a Bamboo Disk to defend himself with. He would later come to carry a Kolhii Staff.
