Kavero was a Toa of Air residing in the Astray Alternate Universe. He served as the scout for the Toa Vandern before his death.

History[]

Early Life[]

Similarly to most other Matoran, Kavero began his life on Spherus Magna, where he labored to construct the Matoran Universe. Following the completion of this task, he was placed on the island of Metru Nui, along with other Matoran. Shortly after the launch of the Great Spirit Robot, Kavero gained true sentience due to Velika’s tampering with the Matoran Universe. Although he continued his original task, the Le-Matoran was granted emotions and became self-aware.

Though he wished to be an airship pilot, Kavero worked as a mechanic at the Le-Metru Test Track. During this time, he found himself frustrated with the nature of his job, and developed a hatred for the test driver Matau, as the Matoran's reckless driving would often create more work for Kavero.

Prior to the Great Cataclysm, he was captured by the Vahki and placed in a Matoran Sphere. Kavero would later be rescued by the Toa Metru and brought to Mata Nui.

Mata Nui[]

Like the rest of the Matoran, Kavero had his strength and size reduced by the prolonged confinement, along with the loss of his memory. Under the Turaga's direction, he aided in the construction of Le-Koro. During the Dark Times, Kavero joined the Gukko Force, though he was disliked by many of the Rahi, and could not fly as a result.

During an attack on Le-Koro, Kavero and the other members of the Gukko Force were the only Le-Matoran that were not captured by the Nui-Rama swarms. Saddling up, the force flew to the swarm's hive, eventually freeing Matau and the other Le-Matoran.

When the Bohrok attacked Mata Nui and overran Le-Koro, Kavero was among the Matoran to have his mask replaced with a Krana. After Kongu and Tamaru led the swarm into a trap by the Boxors, all of the Le-Matoran had their masks returned to them. After the defeat of the Bohrok-Kal, the Matoran were rebuilt into stronger forms.

Return to Metru Nui[]

After Metru Nui was rediscovered, the Matoran constructed boats to return there. Upon arrival, they attempted to restore the ruined city. Kavero temporarily stopped working on Jaller's orders, to force the Turaga to reveal where the Toa Nuva had gone. He eventually got back to work.

Later, the Great Spirit Robot was damaged heavily as a consequence of the Battle of Bara Magna, leading to the migration of all surviving species of the Matoran Universe, including Kavero, to Spherus Magna.

Spherus Magna[]

Upon exiting the Matoran Universe, Kavero aided in the construction of Atero Nui. He chose to settle in the Air district, where he made friends with the Jungle Tribe. As a result of a poor prank, Kavero was forced to work on Ohri's expedition as a punishment. Easily bored, he entertained himself through annoying other members of the expedition; particularly the Po-Matoran Arohni. During this time, he also attempted to befriend fellow Matoran from Mata Nui, such as the Ta-Matoran Raeys or the Le-Matoran musician Sanso.

After several weeks, the group arrived at the White Quartz Mountains, where the expedition split up briefly. Kavero was paired up with Ohri, Raeys, Jaiiko, Saetta, Delgan, and Arohni; shortly afterwards, the group was attacked by Vorox. Fleeing deeper into the mountains, they discovered a deceased Toa and six hidden Toa Stones. Upon touching one of the stones, Kavero was transformed into a Toa.

Formation of the Vandern[]

Upon their transformation, the group was quickly discovered by the Vorox and was forced to fight. During this battle, Kavero fended off a few Vorox but struggled to effectively use his elemental powers. Jaiiko, using his elemental control over Ice, caused an avalanche, decisively ending the battle. Afterwards, the rookie Toa ran from the rest of the expedition, hoping to lead the remaining Vorox away. At this time, the group was formerly dubbed as the Toa Vandern by Ohri.

Kavero vs Jaiiko

"Hey, c'mon, I'm just a little birthday boy..."

As the Vandern wandered across Spherus Magna, they attempted to make sense of their new abilities. Overjoyed by his transformation, Kavero took great pride in his own abilities but consistently struggled to control his element or Kanohi. Further, his ego and attitude created friction with his teammates, particularly Jaiiko and Arohni. The Vandern frequently clashed with one another over strategies and ideals, with Kavero attributing this to Raeys' failure as a leader. These issues came to a head when Kavero's arrogant behavior put the team in danger while traveling through Bota Magna. Following this, the group abandoned him and ultimately split apart.

The Vandern would each stumble upon a small village hidden in the jungle, where the pirate Vakavus and his crew stayed. During this time, the fledgling Toa would be trained in their abilities. Kavero struck up a sibling-like friendship with fellow Toa of Air Vecella, and attempted to make amends with his teammates.

Slowly gaining more familiarity with their abilities, the Vandern were then attacked by members of Velika's Empire, though they managed to defeat the Vorox by finally working together as a team. At this time, the Toa learned of their true destiny: to defeat the unknown Great Being and stop his conquest. With this information, the group decided to travel back to Atero Nui, planning to contact the Spherus Magna Council for aid and direction.

Vandern mourning

Much later, the Vandern would discover a legion of Baterra nearby Atero Nui. Seeing no other choice, Kavero flew away from the city, providing a distraction for the Baterra to attack. Quickly overwhelmed, the rest of his team was incapable of recovering his remains, save for his Kanohi Miru. Kavero's sacrifice earned him a statue in Atero Nui, with his Miru placed at the bottom. However, the remaining Vandern would go into a deep depression, wondering if they could have saved him.

Abilities and Traits[]

Kavero is a sardonic and cynical individual, particularly when compared to many of his Le-Matoran brethren. Despite this, he is quite energetic and takes great pride in his tribe, easily befriending other Le-Matoran. Throughout his life, Kavero has had a single-minded ambition to fly, though he has never achieved this goal. After the Bohrok attacks on Mata Nui, his attitude sobered greatly. He is well-known as a prankster, though the nature of his pranks range from cruel to jovial. Arrogant and impetuous, Kavero frequently causes tensions with others, including the rest of the Vandern. Despite coming off as selfish, he does truly care for his teammates.

As a Le-Matoran, Kavero had inactive control over the Element of Air, granting him innate energy and agility. When he became a Toa, he gained full access to his abilities, allowing him to create, manipulate, and absorb air. However, he has the worst elemental control out of the Vandern, and cannot effectively use his powers. Furthermore, he is clumsy on the ground and strongly dislikes water. Despite this, he is very agile in the air and is often more effective in in the sky or the treetops.

Mask and Tools[]

Kavero wore a powerless Kanohi Miru for most of his life. This Kanohi transformed into its Great version when he was transformed into a Toa. The Miru allowed Kavero to glide above the ground for short distances or to halt a rapid descent. Additionally, it could be used to create the illusion of flight, though it was not able to propel him through the air. However, Kavero struggled to access his Kanohi, and often relied more heavily on his Toa Tools.

When he was transformed into a Toa, Kavero gained a pair of Aero Cutlasses. These weapons served as his Toa Tools, and could be used to channel his elemental powers or glide along updrafts, propelling the Toa in flight. During the Vandern's travels, he created a Wingpack for himself. The Wingpack possessed a large set of wings and rocket boosters, allowing Kavero to sidestep his lack of elemental control. However, it was prone to breakage or maintenance, meaning that the Toa could not rely upon it.

Trivia[]

  • Kavero's sacrifice was one of the first things planned for the character, though the actual circumstances surrounding the event were not. For a period, Redastrayzero considered having Kavero perish at the hands of Marendar.
    • As part of the planned Marendar scene, Kavero's moc features the ability to separate into two halves.
  • Kavero’s Matoran form is based off of BobTheDoctor27’s Matoran revamp.
