"I’d like to see you try, little meal."
―Kalmah to Defilak, Rock Bottom

Kalmah was once a biomechanical being, but was fully transformed by the mutagenic properties of the Black Water into a squid-like monster with a taste for Matoran.

History[]

It's not known how Kalmah came to be in the Black Water, but he's spent enough time there to have been mutated into a nearly fully organic being and become accustomed to his new environment.

About thirty years after the Great Cataclysm, Kalmah moved or changed his behavior in some way that caused the Vampire Squid to move out of the Black Water and into the waters around Mahri Nui. This provoked an expedition into the Black Water lead by Dekar. When the expedition stopped to recover Glace, Kalmah took advantage of the opening and attacked, killing Sarda and chasing their submersible all they way back to the edge of Mahri Nui.

Finding the Matoran in the Submersible to be too difficult prey, Kalmah moved to check around the rest of the area. He came across Gar and dragged the Onu-Matoran into the Black Water and killed him. He lurked near the surface in case any more opportune meals presented themselves. He was lurking just beneath the darker waters when Defilak came looking for Gar, and heard the Le-Matoran's threat when he noticed Kalmah lurking in the darkness.

Personality and Traits[]

Kalmah appears to be a mindless monster, but there's a cruel intelligence behind the beast. The Matoran of Mahri Nui don't know this, nor do they know his intentions, but they know his hunger.

Powers and Equipment[]

Whatever Kalmah once was, he's now a creature of the deep. He can swim with impressive speed, capable of keeping up with Defilak's submersible. He is immensely strong, capable of restraining a Matoran with ease. His spiraling roes of teeth are sharp enough to cut through armor, and he seems to be able to see even in near-complete darkness.
