Kaapeli was a Le-Matoran resident of Metru Nui, instrumental in the development of the Chute network.
History[]
Early Life[]
As a Le-Matoran, Kaapeli began his life on Spherus Magna, where he aided in the construction the Matoran Universe.
With the Le-Metru education transportation developing into a city-wide infrastructure, Kaapeli rose to a position of early esteem as a engineer, developing some of the island's earliest transport networks. He frequently traveled to Ta-Metru and Ga-Metru, studying the Molten Protodermis pipelines and canal systems.
Roughly 79,500 years ago, at the onset of the Matoran Civil War, Kaapeli came to petition the local Turaga for a ceasefire alongside a number of other Matoran, conscientiously objecting to the warfare that gripped the streets of Metru Nui. However, as the war raged on, he became obligated to defend his native region from Ta-Matoran militants.
In the years after the Matoran Civil War, Kaapeli endeavored to repair the damage and connect the various districts of the island, a sentiment that was shared with the island's newly appointed elder, Turaga Dume. This led to the creation of the island's Chute System, which transported cargo and passengers across all six districts.
Shortly before the Great Cataclysm, Kaapeli, along with all the other Matoran of Metru Nui, was instructed to convene on the Coliseum by Makuta Teridax, who had taken the guise of Turaga Dume. Once he arrived, Kaapeli was confronted by a squadron of Vahki and placed inside a Matoran Sphere. During his time inside the sphere, his body reduced in size, and all his previous memories were erased.
Mata Nui[]
After being awakened by the Toa Metru on Naho Bay, Kaapeli aided in the construction of Le-Koro using Airship parts under Turaga Matau's direction. With his memory erased and his body notably shrunken due to prolonged stasis, Kaapeli took on a new role as a trader in Le-Wahi.
Enjoying a year of peace, the progress of the Matoran was notably hindered by the arrival of Makuta Teridax on the island, however, who used Infected Kanohi to corrupt the island's Rahi population. Relentlessly hounded by Rahi attacks and earthquakes, Kaapeli came to situate himself in Le-Koro, rarely traveling beyond the roads and paths etched into the jungle for fear of the Nui-Rama and Tarakava. During this time, Kaapeli gained prominence as an adviser to Turaga Matau, who initially pushed him to resume his interest in engineering.
Kaapeli was among a number of Le-Matoran villagers who witnessed the arrival of Toa Lewa in Le-Koro. With the Toa Mata arriving on the island, the Rahi attacks increased in their frequency.
During his quest to gather Kanohi, Lewa would learn the location of his Mask of Night Vision from Kaapeli, who had located it while scouting the mangrove forests of Lake Pala.
When the Toa succeeded in their quest to collect their Golden Kanohi and descended into the Mangaia tunnels, Kaapeli joined the Le-Matoran Gukko Force that arrived in Kini Nui to defend the entrance from the Infected Rahi. In one final battle, the Matoran emerged victorious, finally freeing the Rahi from Makuta's mental influence and restoring balance to Mata Nui in the process. In retaliation, Makuta awakened the Bohrok swarms from their slumber beneath the island, which overwhelmed the weakened Matoran defenses.
Putting up little resistance to the combined might of the Nuhvok and Lehvak swarms, Kaapeli was captured in the invasion of Le-Koro along with Turaga Matau and the other Le-Matoran. With his Kanohi removed, he was fitted with a Krana Yo and began aiding the Bohrok Swarm in their cleansing of Mata Nui, assisting the Nuhvok as they began felling trees and demolishing the Le-Wahi jungle. He would even help to trap Toa Lewa and witnessed the Toa's Kanohi being replaced with a Krana Vu.
Kaapeli and the other Le-Matoran would later be liberated from the Bohrok by Toa Onua and a platoon of Boxors, piloted by Onu-Matoran. Drawn into a clearing by Tamaru and Kongu, Kaapeli was pulled underground and restrained by Onu-Matoran, until his Krana could be removed.
Following the Bohrok Invasion and the defeat of the Bohrok Kal, Kaapeli was rebuilt into a form resembling the one he had held before being confined in a Matoran Sphere.
Return to Metru Nui[]
Later, after the defeat of Teridax by Takanuva, Kaapeli aided in the construction of boats to return to Metru Nui when the island city was rediscovered. Landing in the city alongside the entire population of Mata Nui, Kaapeli helped repair Le-Metru and the rest of the island, acclimatizing to his old role as a Chute Engineer with some difficulty.
Several days after his arrival, however, word reached the Matoran that the Toa Nuva had left the island on a dangerous mission for reasons unknown. Upon discovering this news, Jaller instigated a silent protest, entreating the island's entire Matoran population to lay down their tools until the Turaga revealed the nature of the mission. Kaapeli notably took part in this protest, refusing to work. Eventually, however, the protest ceased and Kaapeli returned to his duties.
Reign of Shadows[]
When Makuta took control of the Matoran Universe, Kaapeli hid in the Archives along with Toa Nuva, Takanuva, the Turaga of Metru Nui and many other Matoran, though he was eventually captured by a squadron of Rahkshi enforcing the will of Teridax and forced to swear his allegiance to the Makuta.
Kaapeli and his fellow Matoran were freed of Teridax's tyranny when he was killed in the Battle of Bara Magna, sustaining heavy damage to his body. Kaapeli and all the other surviving residents of Metru Nui, which suffered severe damage, evacuated the city and relocated to Spherus Magna to begin a new life.
Abilities and Traits[]
Similarly to all other Le-Matoran, Kaapeli possessed a minuscule degree of control over the elemental discipline of Air, though he could not access Elemental Powers or utilize a Great Kanohi. Additionally, he was accustomed to higher altitudes.
Mask and Tools[]
Kaapeli wore a powerless Kanohi Kaukau.
While residing on Metru Nui, he wielded a Kanoka Disk Launcher, favoring a low-ranged Freeze Kanoka valued at 521. This allowed him to temporarily freeze a target.
