Jovak is a Toa of Plasma who has had many close encounters with some of the most dangerous beings in the Matoran Universe. He is originally from Metru Nui, but has somehow found himself in Skrop's village.
Author's Note: I don't think that this is necessarily well-written, I was kind of figuring out the story as I went along. Hopefully I can expand upon this character and polish the writing a bit.
Early life[]
Jovak began life as a Su-Matoran in Metru Nui, where he took a job in welding and electrical repair. In his free time, however, he took great interest in storytelling. He was amazed at the elaborate narratives such tales could convey, and hoped to become the next Chronicler. However, he was chosen to become the next Toa of Plasma. While surprised at first, He fully accepted his new responsibility.
Life as a Toa[]
As a Toa, Jovak was more reserved than his fellow Toa. He preferred to be by himself most of the time, unless his team absolutely needed him. This behavior became a favorite for Tamuu, Toa of Plantlife, to point out. Cerborran, the team leader, always had to break up the conflict between the two Toa. When he wasn't needed, Jovak would take time to record his observations or any ideas that came to mind, in a way chronicling the journeys of his team. In times where he was needed, the team either utilized his control of plasma to melt obstacles or his heat resistance to enter hotter areas.
Encounters with "Mutant"[]
One mission saw Jovak and his team stop a pair of Dark Hunters from stealing a sample of Energized Protodermis from a research laboratory in Ko-Metru. Upon arriving at the lab, the two opposing teams came into conflict. The battle was fierce, but ended disastrously when Jovak attempted to utilize his plasma control to incapacitate one of the Dark Hunters. Instead, the Dark Hunter dodged the plasma blast, causing Jovak to hit a support pillar instead. the plasma easily melted through the pillar, causing the entire building and it's findings to quickly level. The Matoran who used the laboratory was just returning to the lab with samples of Energized Protodermiswhen he witnessed Jovak melting the pillar. Mistaking the Toa's actions to be intentional, the scientist began fixating on revenge for his research.
Some time later, Jovak branched off from the rest of his team, taking on a few missions on his own. One day, a mysterious being had told the Toa that the same scientist who owned the lab was planning to weaponize Energized Protodermis for use of the Dark Hunters (this ended up being false, and the being who had told him was a Dark Hunter in disguise). Jovak wasted no time to attempt to locate the Matoran. he eventually discovered the scientist collecting samples from a large pool of Energized Protodermis, the largest natural body of the substance in Metru Nui. Jovak at first attempted to convince the scientist to stop further research and betray the Dark Hunters, but this only confused and enraged the scientist further. Jovak kept trying to resolve the conflict without harming the Matoran, until he pulled out a Kanoka launcher and fired at the Toa. The conflict escalated until, without thinking, Jovak pushed the Matoran into the pool of Energized Protodermis. Jovak did not realize what he had just done until the Matoran had been fully submerged in the liquid. Jovak ran away, instantly regretting his actions. However, the now mutated Matoran only grew to hate the Toa of Plasma even more, joining the Dark Hunters under the code name "Mutant", now set on destroying Jovak.
Near death-experiences[]
Jovak has had many encounters with beings that could prevent him from reviving on the Red Star.
His first encounter came when his team went to investigate the reported disappearances of several Matoran throughout Metru Nui. While searching the bowels of a Ta-Matoran warehouse, they encountered a prototype Vahki. Despite its technical instability, the machine was still a formidable adversary, even managing to kill Cerborran. Once the Vahki was destroyed, Jovak was appointed the new leader of the Toa Team, much to the disappointment of Tamuu. Jovak accepted responsibility of leading his team, and were even successful in locating a few missing matoran under his command.
Around the same time the Toa Mangai started to fall, Jovak was leading his team in a rescue mission when they were ambushed by Dark Hunters, including "Mutant". Jovak was the only Toa to survive the encounter, with "Mutant" personally throwing the Toa down a Visorak pit. Jovak was able to escape the pit, but had been bitten multiple times, the Hordika Venom already taking effect. Over the course of a few weeks, he had transformed into a Toa Hordika, and took refuge in the abandoned districts of Metru Nui.
After the Great Cataclysm, Jovak went into hiding from scouting Visorak or any other beings that may still have lived in the abandoned city. The Toa of Plasma encountered the same Dark Hunters that had ambushed him not long after, and viciously attacked them, especially "Mutant", for killing his Toa Team. Before he could kill the Dark Hunter, however, he came to his senses, realizing the Hordika Venom was corrupting his being. He then searched for a cure to the venom, before he fully transformed. He eventually encountered Keetogu, who agreed to cure Jovak, who deep down wanted to protect any remaining beings from the ever growing Visorak Horde, only snapping as the result of the venom. Jovak had been cured, however some aspects of his Toa Hordika form, such as his mutated Matatu, did not revert.
Jovak may have also been the Toa of Plasma Zaktan had attacked, as he had been on Voya Nui when he had disappeared from the Matoran Universe. Some claimed that Jovak had used a Kanohi Olmak to flee to another dimension, but due to the rarity of the mask, some doubt this claim.
The Village[]
Somehow, Jovak ended up in the Waste Universe. When he arrived, his chestplate was noticeably missing, and appeared to be injured. He was immediately taken in and recovered. once he was well enough, he told the village he had ended up in of his travels and adventures as a Toa. He currently protects the village from any who threaten its safety.
Facts:[]
- Jovak has a very similar name to Jovan, a Toa from the official BIONICLE lore. This was probably a coincidence (Plus, some Toa share very similar names in BIONICLE. It can be a bit confusing for a new fan to differentiate Onua from Onewa from Whenua, if that makes sense).
- Jovak was originally intended as sort of a self moc.
- Interestingly, Jovak originally possessed a Noble Matatu, but the Hordika Venom seemed to revert the mask back to a Great Matatu (albeit mutated)
- His left eye was damaged in his first encounter with the Dark Hunters
- Jovak's color scheme is noticeably not as consistent compared to other Toa of Plasma, with less Orange highlights in favor of more silver. Maybe He'll acquire a more traditional color scheme in the future.
