Jidshi—literally “heaven on earth” in Jijid—was an island in the Shimmering Seas and was the homeland of the Jidera.
History[]
When Biosynths first began appearing across the Shimmering Seas, ecosystems of primitive Biosynth species emerged on Jidshi. After enough time, the first Jidera began appearing and developing their societies, language, and culture.
The Jidera spread themselves out across Jidshi, collecting into villages. Rudiments of trade began developing between the villages, and a thin network of dirt trails across the island was created to facilitate this trade.
Over time, the plague the Jidera called the Embrace broke out across the island. Most of the primitive Biosynths on Jidshi appeared immune to the Embrace, but the Jidera population was devastated by it. A fourth of all Jidera living on Jidshi would fall victim to the Embrace, and many Jidera would flee the island and settle elsewhere in the Shimmering Seas.
The Embrace eventually subsided, but very few of the Jidera that left Jidshi ever returned. Those that remained endeavored to repair the damages done to their societies and return Jidshi to a pre-Embrace state.
Landscape[]
Jidshi was lush with vegetation and relatively temperate in climate. The island had two major mountain ranges, with thick forests growing on either side of each. Rains were frequent year-round, and snow fell on a seasonal basis in the mountains. The Jidinjis plant was abundant on the island, and was regularly farmed and consumed by Jidera and used for spiritual purposes by Jidera shamans.
Like most islands populated by Biosynths, Jidshi was rich in Cascatine deposits. Jidera rarely mined Cascatine beyond what was needed, and so the island retained much of its supply long-term.
