Imbibers were a large and barbaric species residing in the Southern Island Chain of the Matoran Universe.
History[]
Shortly after the successful departure of the Great Spirit Robot from Spherus Magna, Mata Nui became somewhat overeager with the creation of new species to serve additional functions, resulting in the plethora of different species that would come to inhabit the Matoran Universe. The Imbiber species was one such creation.
Imbibers were native to one of the Southern Islands, though they quickly dispersed throughout the universe. They were created to serve as enforcers, among other things, but they were primarily intended by Mata Nui to help him keep track of his mission objective, as well as helping the Makuta remember it. As such, they were given the ability to absorb Antidermis and gain access to knowledge of everything the Great Beings tasked the Great Spirit with, should Mata Nui lose sight of his directive.
Imbibers usually just carried out their jobs as enforcers or secret guardians, often gaining employment in the Order of Mata Nui or wherever rulers needed help regulating their population.
Abilities and Traits[]
All Imbibers are giant compared to others, easily towering over most individuals. They were known for having a set of secondary arms, which could be retracted on-command. Imbibers have the capability to wear Kanohi masks, and use them.
All Imbibers boast incredible strength, stamina, and endurance, Brutaka himself able to knock a group of Toa unconscious with a single swing. They also were capable of resistance toxins, venom, and poisons, including a slight resistance to mutagen.
All members also seem to be capable of absorbing Antidermis into themselves, making them grow stronger, increasing muscle growth, and in extreme cases, granting levitation and the entire set of Makuta powers. They also gain access to all the knowledge Makuta had at their creation but forgot.
Society[]
While the Imbiber population was initially focused on one of the Southern Islands, it has long since dispersed throughout the universe. Imbibers often work as enforcers for island rulers or as secret guardians, silently monitoring populations without their knowledge. It was for this reason Brutaka was sent by the Order of Mata Nui to be a guardian of the Mask of Life.
