"I am beyond your comprehension. You may call me Iiliara."
―Iiliara

Iiliara is a mysterious entity who was trapped inside the Kanohi Ignika several hundred years ago.

History[]

At some point between the launching of the Great Spirit Robot and the Great Cataclysm, Iiliara was imprisoned within the Ignika. It's unclear if this occurred within the Ignika's resting place in the Chamber of Life deep within Mount Valmai on the Southern Continent. When the Great Cataclysm occurred, the Ignika was carried with Voya Nui to the surface of Aqua Magna.

Recovery from the Chamber of Life[]

Spoiler warning! Hover over the text to reveal it.

When Makuta Gorast's team of Toa Hagah managed to successfully descend the 777 Steps and recovered the Ignika, Iiliara seized her opportunity. She began to manipulate the team's leader, Lune, into taking her to Makuta Gorast. But the other surviving member, Sauti recognized that Lune was being influenced and beheaded him. Four years later, Sauti touched the Ignika willingly in an attempt to learn more about its history. He conversed briefly with Iiliara, who attempted to make a deal with him: she would restore his lost memories, and he would bring her to Makuta Gorast. Sauti refused the deal, and hurled the Ignika into the Voya Nui Bay, hoping to hide it away forever.

Mahri Nui[]

The Ignika was recovered by Lemiddus, a Fa-Matoran guard. Iiliara immediately began to manipulate him into keeping the Mask for himself, hoping she could find a way back inside the Great Spirit Robot. It didn't take her long to determine that Lemiddus would not be useful to her, and she shifted her attentions to Kyros instead, manipulating the Ignika's power to revive him after he was electrified to death by Lemiddus' curse.

After Kyros killed Lemiddus and fled the city, Iiliara revealed herself to him, and made a deal to allow him to keep the Ignika after he helped her procure a suitable body for herself. She began to coach him on using his new abilities in conjunction with the Ignika, and directed him to head deeper below Mahri Nui to find a way to return to the interior of the Great Spirit Robot.

Personality and Traits[]

Iiliara is incredibly mysterious and hard to pin down. She presents herself slightly differently every time, playing to whomever is holding the Ignika in order to achieve what she wants. Her only stated goal is to find herself a new body, in order to escape her imprisonment. She has a particularly unpleasant relationship with the Great Being known as Velika, though the exact details of this are shrouded in history.

Iiliara is genderless, often being perceived differently by the different beings that encounter her. Erde seemingly perceived her as more feminine, using she/her pronouns in statements his corpse made after the Ignika was removed. Sauti referred to Iiliara with they/them pronouns, while Kyros used it/its as he refused to see Iiliara as more than an object.

Powers[]

While imprisoned within the Ignika, Iiliara is capable of communicating telepathically with any beings in physical contact with the Kanohi. She often uses this ability to attempt to manipulate those carrying the Ignika into doing what she wants them to do, often masquerading as the intelligence of the Ignika itself, or even the being's own internal monologue. She has demonstrated some ability to control the nature and conditions of the curses inflicted upon beings who touch the Ignika without being destined to bear it, which she used to resurrect Kyros.

Quotes[]

"Are you? A threat?"
"Among other things, yes, I would hope so.
"
Sauti and Iiliara
"I’m not in your head, fortunately. It would be so cramped and uncomfortable, even with all that empty space."
―Iiliara to Kyros

Trivia[]

  • DeltaStriker defaults to she/her pronouns when referring the Iiliara outside of the serials she appears in, likely as a residual effect of her being exclusively coded as feminine in the original plans for the Afterverse.
