- "Guardian is the keeper of secrets. He stays on the periphery of any major conflict between the Dark Hunters and major foes like the Toa or the Brotherhood of Makuta. His task is a simple one: If a Dark Hunter is captured, it is his job to silence them before any secrets can be divulged to our enemies."
- ―The Shadowed One, Dark Hunters
Guardian was a highly-accomplished Dark Hunter, charged primarily with maintaining Dark Hunter intelligence and dispatching rogue members of the organization.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
"Guardian" originally resided in a region in the Southern Island Chain, created by Mata Nui and based upon the genetic coding of several existing sapient species alongside the rest of his kind. However, a dispute amongst the members of his clan left "Guardian" severely injured.
Recovered by a number of early Dark Hunters, "Guardian" brought to Odina and presented before The Shadowed One, who saw potential in his conviction and loyalty. Seeking an allegiance, "Guardian" came to readily serve The Shadowed One in his composite mercenary guild.
Dark Hunters[]
Subjected to a number of experiments after his acceptance into the organization, Dark Hunter scientists would issue "Guardian" with a sophisticated type of exomorphic armor designed to increase his natural endurance and equipped with a Rhotuka Launcher.
Over the course of his service, "Guardian" came to be regarded as a trusted figure within The Shadowed One's ranks and was often sent on assignments to silence members of the organization if they were captured, preventing the spread of intelligence.
Six months after the Toa/Dark Hunter War, "Guardian" was among the many Dark Hunters on Odina who witnessed Toa Nidhiki's transformation into his four-legged, insectoid-like form on the coast that would later be named Nidhiki Beach.
By the time of the Great Cataclysm, the total Dark Hunter population had begun to see a drastic increase in size, with members of the organization growing more experienced and with The Shadowed One constantly searching for new potential in his ranks. Having proved himself an especially capable saboteur, "Guardian" came to be involved in the front lines of numerous Dark Hunter offensives, ensuring compliance amongst the guild's ranks and hunting down deserters. With the Matoran Universe running on auxiliary power and the Brotherhood of Makuta now in a prime position of power, "Lurker" spent the majority of the Dark Times engaged in espionage operations.
Reign of Shadows[]
After Makuta Teridax took control of the Matoran Universe and announced the success of his plan, "Guardian" was forced to abandon his activities and seek shelter, with the Dark Hunters branded as enemies of the Makuta's new world order. While initially welcoming of Mata Nui's downfall, "Guardian" soon came to realize that the Matoran Universe was no better off under Teridax's rule.
With the Dark Hunters scattered and with pockets of resistance emerging across the domes of the Great Spirit Robot, "Guardian" traveled to the ruins of Karzahni with Lariska to attend a meeting let by Toa Nuva Tahu. Willing to contribute to a resistance effort, "Guardian" proved excessively critical of the Toa's approach and left the campfire to recompose himself. Aware of the resistance forces massing across the Matoran Universe, however, Makuta Teridax commanded the ground to open beneath "Guardian" before closing it again, crushing the Dark Hunter in the process.
Red Star[]
Mortally wounded, "Guardian" was transported to the Red Star for repairs at the hands of the Kestora, a practice that was not uncommon for inhabitants of the Great Spirit Robot upon sustaining terminal injury. With the Red Star's teleportation function disabled, however, "Guardian" was placed in stasis while the Kestora endeavored to return him to the Matoran Universe.
Abilities and Traits[]
Proving himself an especially cynical operative, "Guardian" often saw the worst in his colleagues and opponents, identifying behavioral traits that he believed could compel allies to betray him. Unwilling to relive the injuries that caused him to join the Dark Hunters, "Guardian" considered himself the custodian of the organization's intelligence, eliminating rogue informants and deserters with extreme prejudice.
"Guardian" was equipped with a Staff that was fitted with a Rhotuka Launcher, which notably fired spinners with Stone and Earth properties. In addition, "Guardian" was known to wield sharp claws, which he often employed in close quarters combat.
Trivia[]
- "Guardian" was designed for the BIONICLE: Dark Hunters contest by Jordan Steelquist, better known to the BIONICLE community as Shannara, the designer of the Spiny Stone Ape and the Iron Wolves.
