Grand Scholar (occasionally referred to as High Scholar) is an occupation that was developed by the Mersion race on their homeland of Versuva. This position was usually reserved for only the sharpest and most intelligent members of their race, and was considered one of the most sought-after occupations on the island, with very few attaining the job. The role also offers much influence and power in Mersion society.
Because it is ranked above the roles of professors, teachers and scientists, Grand Scholars are deeply admired and respected by others. In their studies, a Grand Scholar will study anything ranging from Rahi observation to the development of antidotes to mythology. The position has only ever been seen on Versuva, and it remains unclear if any other islands throughout the Matoran Universe have developed this occupation.
Though Mersions generally take up this occupation, an extremely low number of Matoran have also become Grand Scholars.
