The Golden Regime Universe is an alternate universe where Matoran Universe was taken over by the being known as Lero Jax.

History

Early differences in the Matoran Universe

The earliest difference from the Core Universe seems to be the existence of one Lero Jax, as records of his life cannot seem to be found anywhere else. Brought into existence at an unknown date and being of an unknown species, Lero was a soldier in the ranks of the League of Six Kingdoms until the banishment of the Barraki. He would go on to become a Mask Maker, learning about the various ways of mask making. After many years of making masks and seeing how various organizations attempted to rule the Matoran Universe made it his dream to create the most powerful mask in the universe. He'd go on to join the Order of Mata Nui in order to gain knowledge of other powerful Kanohi so that his dream could come to fruition.

Point of Divergence

While must history coming from before the establishment of the Golden Regime is either scarce or missing, we do know that Lero eventually succeeded in creating something akin to what could be considered as the most powerful mask in the universe (though most would agree he had two masks; one that contained the most powerful combat related abilities, like speed and strength. And one that contained powers related to space and time) and began his conquest of the Matoran Universe.

The fall of the Order of Mata Nui

Once he created his mask (we believe it to be the combat-related mask cited above), Lero staged a coup d'état. He claimed to be more powerful than Mata Nui himself and after some display of showing off multiple Kanohi abilities at once, gained enough support to march upon the Order's headquarters in Daxia. While the other agents didn't completely believe his bold claim, they still saw him as a threat and sent a taskforce consisting of Brutaka, Jarodin, Botar and several other Toa with the mission of assassinating him. However the mission was a failure as the every member of the taskforce was killed by Lero (it is at this point most historians assume that Lero gained the power of the Kanohi Olmak from Brutaka).

The Siege of Daxia Fortress

After the failed assassination attempt, Lero and his followers besieged the fortress as it was too difficult and risky for an all-out assault (though most historians would agree that Lero fully had the power to destroy the fortress. But he chose to have his followers take part in a siege that would be more rewarding in terms of moral and experience than had he simply demolished it). The siege lasted 276 days until the remaining members launched their final resort in which the Order's Inner circle would escape while the others would make a last stand to buy time. However the escape was intercepted and all of the Inner circle members were killed, most notably Helryx was killed by Trinuma.

Though he didn't yet know it, Lero had also destroyed the Hand of Artakha as now all of their members that were also part of the Order had died or joined Lero.

Rise of the Regime

Once he had control of the Order, now to be known as the Legion of Lero Jax, and access to its extensive data archives, Lero was able to collect the remaining Kanohi or Kanoka he didn't have and set out on his conquest of the Matoran Universe. He started by destroying any organizations that might challenge his rule;

Makuta Genocide

Deeming that the Brotherhood of Makuta and subsequently the entire species, only sought harm on the Matoran, he sent his forces to Destral to wipe out the Brotherhood. The Makuta were caught completely off guard and their headquarters was quickly overrun and Destral was cleared of Matuka. Once done with Destral, the Legion moved rapidly through every island killing the Makuta assigned to the region until none were left. While Destral was attacked, Lero personally sought out Teridax. After learning from his time in the Order that he could be dangerous if left unchecked (at this time historians know that Teridax was still a liquid mass of Antidermis sometime after his battle with Takanuva). He was located in his old lair on Mata Nui and Lero destroyed what was left of him, marking the extinction of the Makuta species.

The Four Days Dark War

After the Brotherhood was out of his way, Lero decided that the Dark Hunters were simply a force of chaos and destruction so the Legion was sent to Odina. However the Dark Hunters weren't as unprepared as the Brotherhood and had recalled all their members to their home base. As such the Dark Hunters were actually able to put up a fight that lasted four days but were ultimately wiped out.

Tying up loose ends and the Freeing of the Red Star

Once all the organizations that could challenge his power were out of picture, Lero turned his gaze to certain powerful individuals such as Artakha, Karzahni and other Great Beings. They would either agree to not to interfere with Lero and his plans for the Matoran Universe, like Artakha who would simply live his life on his island, or be destroyed, like Karzahni who thought Lero's plans would rob him of all his thought was his. After dealing with individuals, Lero focused all his power into fixing the Red Star so that the deceased could return.

With this done, nothing stood in Lero's way and he could make the ideal world.

Shaping the Matoran Universe

Now, Lero would begin to shape the Matoran Universe, literally, by moving the many islands around to form a circular chain around the Southern Continent. Whether by design or by mistake, the entire Southern Islands were wiped away (most historians would agree that it was an accident as Lero attempted for the first time to move whole sections of the Great Spirit Robot and place them elsewhere).

Changes

• Several islands have been renamed and all islands that had "Nui" in their name have lost it (e.g. Mata, Voya). The renamed islands are: Northern Continent is now Nordica, the Southern Continent is now Lerogia, Artakha is now known as it's other name the Great Refuge and Karzahni is now Mahri.
• Marhi Nui was picked up and placed in Karzahni, hence its new name.
• A new landmass was placed in the empty part of Voya Nui, known as Jaxar it functions as the the capital of the Matoran Universe.
• Other smaller name changes are due to the unique residents of the island. The Steltians and Vortixx were given the right to rule themselves and so Stelt and Xia function as autonomous regions outside of the jurisdiction of the Golden Regime. Complete control of Keetongu's Island was given to its residents as Lero had much respect for Keetongu.
• Lero was going to wipe out all the Visorak on Visorak so that Matoran could live there but the Matoran scientific community pleaded that he not. Now Visorak has become the scientific hub of the Matoran Universe where new species of Rahi are made by the Matoran in the Makuta's absence.

With the return of the deceased, there were now many more Matoran and other species needing homes, so the Matoran colonized islands such as Visorak, Daxia, Odian and Destral.

Reign of the Golden Regime

Lero could now easily put together his regime and rule the Matoran Universe. Lero rules with, as he likes to put it, a "golden fist, just like gold, heavy but also soft". Which means that he will enforce laws with "weight" if needed but he is still "soft" and doesn't want to interfere too much in the lives of his subjects, especially not in a nagative way. He also tries to make their lives as not difficult as possible by not necessarily making things easier for them, but by removing large obstacles like natural disasters and dangerous Rahi, in a very indirect way as to not seem like he is guiding their existances. Therefore he did not introduce a totalitarian regime and instead each island became a sort of province/state where they would run their own internal affairs while they would have to go to him for greater problems. Lero eventually took a trip to Spherus Magna and observed the Glatorians and Agori on Bota and Bara Magna and found their arena match system and even convinced a few Glatorians (notably Gresh) to come live on Aqua Magna and take part in his own version of the system that he had just thought up on the spot. While leaving Lero noticed that Bota and Bara Magna were supposed to be attached to Shperus Magna, so he casually put them back together just before leaving.

Lero's Arena System

Lero eventually took a trip to Spherus Magna and observed the Glatorians and Agori on Bota and Bara Magna and found their arena match system and even convinced a few Glatorians (notably Gresh) to come live on Aqua Magna and take part in his own version of the system that he had just thought up on the spot. While leaving Lero noticed that Bota and Bara Magna were supposed to be attached to Shperus Magna, so he casually put them back together just before leaving. This new Arena system is how the rest of Lero's Matoran territories settle matters between themselves. They function on three levels: Village, City and Island, with the following level being of much more importance than the last. Each Island has cities which are made up of smaller villages, should there be a trifle, Duelists would be hired to fight for them. Village-level Duelists for village squabbles, City-level Duelists for urban arguments and Island-level Duelists for national dissent. Therefore one could see the prestige that comes with being a Duelist and since individual Toa Teams aren't required anymore (the Legion is the universe's military force) many if not most Duelists are Toa. The main reason this system works so well is almost all because of the revival of the Red Star, so any Duelists that die can come back, which means that the fighters can throw caution to the wind and create very entertaining matches.

Trivia

• This took way too long to write.
• This universe was only created to include stories about the characters the author has made so that they don't clash with any existing canon therefore if something is a miss, misspelled or doesn't make sense, feel free to bring it to my attention.
• It also will probably not be the last universe made by this author as this one functions more as a blank, utopian slate for stories that would only be able to exist because the ruler has control over space and time.
• The reason Lero didn't attempt to colonize the Glatorian/Agori planets is because he believes that ruling one universe is enough work even for the most powerful being alive (also because the author didn't have enough pieces or willpower to create anything other MOCs).
