Garai Nui is an island in the Matoran universe, in a mid-southwestern position. It was almost exclusively populated by the Matoran species. It was notable for it's strange culture.
History[]
Creation[]
Similarly to the other islands in the Matoran Universe, Garai Nui was created by early Matoran laborers with the intention of constructing a cohesive society for numerous Matoran species to reside in. Upon the completion of the Matoran Universe, Several Matoran colonies settled there.
Divergence[]
Garai Nui was an island that was often ignored by travelers, due to its poor climates and thick jungles. It's main use was the port situated on the northwestern side of the island, which was used as a resting place for travelers who wanted to pass by to the islands after it. Very few ever visited the other settlements on the island, and the action was reciprocated by its residents.
This led to the island developing a strange culture. One of the odd points were the residents had a very odd set of superstitions. They came to believe the Kanohi Garai (After which the island was named by a Toa) was a lucky Kanohi, and possessing one brought good fortune. The names of the residents were also quite strange, with tricky-to-pronounce and nonsensical sounds.
About 6,000 years ago, the island was attacked by a group for reasons currently not known. The forests on the island were burnt by fire, and most of the settlements were totally destroyed. Several of the inhabitants of the island were kidnapped and controlled by strange silver-marbled masks, though it is known that some individuals took the masks of their own free will.
After this attack, the remaining Matoran and Turaga began to rebuild the island and to repopulate it by creating new Matoran.
Landscape[]
Physical[]
Garai Nui is in the southwestern regions of the Matoran Universe, in the Southern Island Chains. It's climate is tropical, as the temperature is mid-range and has high amounts of rainfall. Its surface is mostly dominated by large jungles, with beaches ringing the perimeter of the island. 2 distinct rivers are also present.
Settlements[]
The dwellings of the Matoran and Toa living here are mostly indistinct, unsegregated villages dotted throughout the island, usually in small clusters. The only travel between villages consisted of traders and other merchants who traveled to sell their wares.
