Gar was an Onu-Matoran who lived in Mahri Nui, and was the Le-Matoran inventor Defilak's best friend.
History[]
Like all Matoran in Mahri Nui, Gar once lived somewhere else in the Matoran Universe. At some point he was injured and was sent to Karzahni for repairs. Gar was rebuilt into a smaller and weaker form, and was then sent to the uninhabited regions of the Southern Continent to hide Karzahni's failures. He was in the region that would become Voya Nui when the Great Cataclysm tore it lose and threw it into the Endless Ocean.
On Voya Nui, Gar lived in a smaller village for several years before leaving for the growing settlement of Mahri Nui. He settled in and became good friends with the Le-Matoran inventor Defilak. Gar survived Mahri Nui's descent into the Voya Nui Bay, and would go on to join Reysa's Hydruka Keepers, caring for the Rahi that harvested oxygen to maintain the Air Domes that kept the city livable. Gar also actively resisted the system of rotating the position of Council Leader between Matoran, believing it would lead to incompetent Matoran being given too much authority.
One fateful day about ten years after Mahri Nui sank, Gar volunteered to fill in for Reysa's shift when the Onu-Matoran fell ill. When no Sentinel arrived to keep an eye on him (an emergency measure meant to keep the Hydruka and their Keepers safe from Vampire Squid), Gar took the Hydruka out anyway. While on duty he was attacked by Kalmah, who dragged him into the Black Water and devoured him.
His mask was later discovered by Defilak on a ledge near the top of the Black Water and was brought back to Mahri Nui for his funeral. Defilak swore he would avenge his friend, promising to find and kill the creature that killed Gar and Sarda.
Personality and Traits[]
Gar was cynical and rather anti-social, not one to make small talk with others. He was stubborn, refusing to surrender to a view he disagrees with. His only true friend was Defilak, seemingly the only Matoran who could put up with Gar's sarcastic quips.
Powers and Equipment[]
Being an Onu-Matoran, Gar possessed naturally superior night vision and was physically stronger than most other Matoran.
Gar's body was altered by the small amount of mutagen he was exposed to immediately after Mahri Nui sunk into the Voya Nui Bay. This gave him a stronger, sleeker form more suited to his new environment. Gar wore a powerless black Noble Kanohi Komau, the Mask of Mind Control, and carried electrically-charged Echo Forks.

- Since Black Water was the first story to be written as part of the Afterverse, Gar was the first character to be introduced from that universe.
