The Kanohi Elda was the Mask of Detection, a Kanohi that allowed the bearer to view nearby hidden beings and objects invisible to the naked eye, including users of the Kanohi Huna or Iden.

Great versions of the Elda notably enabled the bearer to detect objects of power from across the Matoran Universe, such as the Kanohi Ignika, whereas Noble versions of the Kanohi only permitted the bearer to sense hidden objects within the general vicinity.

History

The Kanohi Elda traces its origins back back to some of the earliest mask-making techniques adopted on Spherus Magna, where an unclear number of Elda masks were created for the Matoran populace. At this point in the history of the Matoran Universe, the Elda became heavily associated with De-Matoran, who held the mask up as a symbol of their elemental discipline.

Over the 100,000 year span of the Matoran Universe's functionality, the Elda became a somewhat uncommon Kanohi. While the mask itself proved only moderately difficult to craft, the Order of Mata Nui soon discovered of the Mask's hidden potential to locate the Kanohi Ignika, hidden on Voya Nui. In the interests of keeping the Mask of Life hidden, Toa Helryx dispatched several Order Agents to regulate the number of Great Elda in circulation across the Matoran Universe.

In Metru Nui an Elda could be crafted with relative ease using Poison Removal, Teleport, and Regeneration Kanoka disks, usually originating from Ko-Metru. Requiring specific Kanoka disks to manufacture and generally considered to be outlawed, the Elda was a typically uncommon mask in Metru Nui, with only a handful of Mask Makers willing to craft it.

On Nynrah, Elda could be crafted using the same Regeneration, Teleport, and Poison Removal Kanoka. The Nynrah-variant of the Elda, however, featured a grated mouthpiece and a more pronounced chin.

Awarded to her by Karzahni, Toa Hahli would later liberate Voya Nui with the Toa Inika whilst bearing an organic Kanohi Elda.
