History[]

Dume was one of the very first Ta-Matoran to be brought into existence by the Great Beings. He aided in the construction of the Matoran Universe, and upon its completion, he was placed in the Matoran Universe inside the Great Spirit Robot before it eventually departed. The island where he used to reside in is unknown. However, it is known that at some point, he was chosen to become part of a Toa team, and using a Toa Stone, was transformed into a Toa of Fire. His team, christened the Toa Amaja, would then be stationed in the city of Metru Nui.

As a consequence of bearing his Kanohi Kiril, a hot-blooded youthful Toa Dume would prove himself an especially reckless combatant during his early days as leader of the Toa Amaja, rarely concerning himself with the collateral damage he would unintentionally cause and come to rely on his Mask of Regeneration to restore any damage done. After a reprimanding from one of his teammates however, Dume came to realize the extent of his negligence and the detriment it caused the local Matoran when he cut corners.

Endeavoring to become more cautious from then on, Dume would begin to develop a stubborn obligation to the protection of the Matoran, one notable instance being when he rescued a Ta-Matoran crafter named Lhikan from a potentially lethal workplace accident. After learning the significance of the Matoran species in the operation of the Great Spirit Robot, Dume would eventually become a stickler for security and defense all the way into his life as a Turaga. Within the next two thousand years, he would primarily fight against dangerous Rahi and the Dark Hunters when they became a threat to the city.

Roughly 15,000 years later, Dume and his team completed their destiny, and went their separate ways to distant lands. He would then transfer most of his Toa Power to a new generation of Toa led by Lhikan. It was also during this period that Dume was appointed as the Turaga of Metru Nui. Dume's rule was threatened by Dark Hunters for the next 4000 years. In one instance, a Rahi called the Kanohi Dragon was unleashed from its imprisonment in the catacombs of Metru Nui, and began rampaging throughout the city above. The beast wreaked havoc for several hours, causing massive damage, death, and destruction in its wake, as well as incapacitating hundreds of Vahki units. Dume soon grew desperate, and sent a dozen more Vahki to request assistance. The Turaga was then cornered in his chambers by three Dark Hunter spies, who offered to stop the attack if the Turaga simply surrendered the whole city to them. Dume refused, and demanded that they leave, only to be threatened with harm in return.

The Hunters were stopped short of carrying out such a method of punishment by the arrival of Lhikan, Nidhiki, and the other Toa Mangai. The Toa forced the Hunters to leave, and then defeated the Kanohi Dragon within the next month. After a long debate, the Toa eventually transported the Rahi to Xia, promising Dume that they would return.

Over the course of the next thousand years, Dume dutifully defended his city against invading forces of Dark Hunters. At one point, a Dark Hunter named Dweller tried to kidnap him, but his attempt failed, which caused an enraged Shadowed One to declare war. As the fighting broke out, Dume was forced to hide in the Coliseum for fear of his life. It had seemed like a lost cause until Toa Naho managed to slip through the Dark Hunter ranks and bring reinforcements of nearly a hundred Toa. The war soon escalated when the two sides fought each other. Dume, however, was still forced to remain in the Coliseum, surrounded by a team of guards at all times.

At some point, more reinforcements were requested, to be delivered discreetly on what were supposed to be supply boats. Lhikan sent Nidhiki to fetch them without telling him what they actually were. Lhikan slipped out and tracked Nidhiki to discover his meeting with the Hunters. The next day, Lhikan's forces ambushed the Dark Hunters, revealed Nidhiki's betrayal, and banished him from the Metru Nui along with the Hunters, effectively ending the war.

About a century later, Dume would be informed of the existence of an organization called Kuurk's Empire, and their intentions to protect the Matoran in large numbers from future threats. The Turaga of Fire would be intrigued by this, and willingly became an ally to the organization as its Advisor.

Dume was among many members of the Empire to emigrate over to the Earth-like planet of Helvean when the organization moved its base of operations there.

Abilities and Traits[]

As a Toa of Fire, Dume could create, control, and absorb fire. When he became a Turaga, his control over fire was significantly weakened. As a Turaga, Dume was involved in Matoran affairs to some extent. For example, he once modified the rules of Akilini to forbid Matoran from using disks produced outside their Metru. That said, the Turaga is somewhat stubborn and does not interact with the Matoran of Metru Nui nearly as much as other Turaga do. Despite this, the Matoran see Dume as wholly benevolent, radiating wisdom and describing him as having a paternal feeling for all of them. The Turaga has proven himself to be fiercely protective of both Metru Nui and its inhabitants, as evident when he repeatedly refused to allow the Dark Hunters to take root in the city, even when his own life was put on the line.
