Dume was the foremost Turaga of Metru Nui. In the weeks prior to the Great Cataclysm, Makuta Teridax assumed his form to enact his Grand Plan.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Similarly to most other Toa of Fire, Dume began his life as a Ta-Matoran on Spherus Magna, where he aided in the construction of the Matoran Universe. Upon its completion, Dume was placed inside the Matoran Universe, which then departed Spherus Magna. The island of his original residence remains unclear. However, it is known that he was chosen to became part of a Toa team at some point in the history of the Matoran Universe, serving as a Toa for several thousands of years.

Life as a Toa[]

As a consequence of bearing a Kanohi Kiril, a hot-blooded, youthful Toa Dume would prove himself an especially reckless combatant in his early days as a Toa, rarely concerning himself with collateral damage and coming to rely on his Mask of Regeneration to restore any damage. After a reprimanding from an embittered Toa of Air named Lesovikk, however, Dume came discover the extent of his negligence and the detriment it caused the local Matoran when he cut corners.

Endeavoring to become more cautious, Dume would develop a stubborn obligation to the protection of Matoran, notably rescuing a Ta-Matoran crafter named Lhikan from a potentially lethal workplace accident 16,000 years ago. After learning the significance of the Matoran species in the operation of the Great Spirit Robot, Dume would eventually become a stickler for security and defense all the way into his life as a Turaga.

Following the creation of the Great Kanoka Disks, Dume was tasked with scattering the six Kanoka in their respective Metru. Unknowingly operating at the behest of the Order of Mata Nui, Dume was responsible for devising each of the hiding places; lodging the Ta-Metru Disk inside a Fire Pit, the Ga-Metru Disk between the teeth of the Dweller in the Deep, the Onu-Metru Disk deep within the Archives, the Po-Metru Disk atop a balanced pyramid in the Sculpture Fields, the Le-Metru Disk inside a Force Sphere in an abandoned Chute and the Ko-Metru Disk inside an icicle on one of the largest Knowledge Towers.

Life as a Turaga[]

Roughly 15,000 years ago, after transferring his Toa Power to a new generation of Toa led by Lhikan, Dume directed the young recruits to the Toa Fortress, where he intended for them to train under his fellow Toa. During this period, Dume was also appointed the Turaga of Metru Nui.

Roughly 4,000 years ago, Dume witnessed the release of the Kanohi Dragon from captivity beneath the island of Metru Nui. As the first in a series of attempts by the Dark Hunters to seize control of the island, Dume was confronted by Vezok, Reidak, and Avak, who demanded his unconditional surrender. Refusing to comply, the Turaga of Fire was rescued by the newly-formed Toa Mangai, who went on to repel the Dark Hunters, contain the Kanohi Dragon, and remain on the island as its dedicated Toa team. Under the leadership of Toa Lhikan, this Toa team notably comprised of Nidhiki, Naho and Tuyet, as well as seven other Toa.

Around 3,500 years ago, in a period of Metru Nui's history where most of the Toa Mangai were taking part in missions outside the island's dome, Dume charged Lhikan with defending the island alone with Tuyet and Nidhiki. After discovering that a small squadron of Dark Hunters had made landfall in Metru Nui, Tuyet began to enact her plan, brutally murdering three random Matoran and framing their deaths on the Dark Hunters operating in the city. With Lhikan and Nidhiki endeavoring to investigate the incidents and engage the Dark Hunters, however, the pair eventually grew skeptical, sensing that the Dark Hunters were not in fact responsible for the deaths.

Abilities and Traits[]

Rising to power in the aftermath of the Matoran Civil War, Dume was quick to establish himself as a stubborn but just leader of the Matoran, presiding over all six regions of Metru Nui. Under Dume's leadership, many of the founding industries of the island were established, with the Turaga making extensive contributions towards the defense of the island without a local Toa team. As a Turaga, he proved loyal to the Matoran under his protection and was revered as the political leader who saw Metru Nui through the attempted Dark Hunter invasion.

In the years after the Great Cataclysm, Dume sought to repair the damage caused by Makuta, who notably adopted his guise to turn the Matoran against the Toa Metru and convince the citizens of Metru Nui to enter into Matoran Pods.

As a Toa of Fire, Dume could create, control, and absorb heat. This also gave him the ability to manipulate most forms of Molten Protodermis, alter the temperature of a target area, trigger volcanic eruptions, and conjure fiery constructs. Dume was also able to withstand considerably warmer conditions.

Following his transformation into a Turaga, the extent of Dume's Elemental Powers was greatly reduced, though he retained his ability to manipulate Fire to a limited but nonetheless sufficient extent.
