Diugn is a former member of the Hand of Artakha, former prisoner of the Pit, and current Governor of the kingdom of Xianori.

Biography

Diugn joined the Hand of Artakha as one of its first members, where he gained a reputation as a diplomat. His political decisions had a long-lasting impact in the early history of the Matoran Universe and ushered in a prolonged period of peace.

After the Hand was disbanded, Diugn was bereft of purpose, so he joined the League of Six Kingdoms as an advisor for Barraki Takadox. Working for Takadox, he quickly became the warlord's closest advisor, as well as the de facto ruler of his domain, managing the everyday business while Takadox pursued his own endeavors. After the Barraki rebelled against the Great Spirit Mata Nui, the League was defeated and many of its high-ranking members, including Diugn, were captured and condemned to the Pit.

Diugn remained imprisoned for thousands of years until the Great Cataclysm shattered the dome of the Pit and released the prisoners out into the ocean. He swam out and was subsequently mutated into a water-breather. Soon after, Diugn was captured by a tribe of Zyglak. He managed to persuade the Zyglak into an alliance and, over time, he made them completely loyal to him. He then took up residence in The Cord.

One day, Diugn saved a Mahri Nui Matoran named Kuruk from danger and convinced him to become his informant in exchange for protection.

Millenia later, Kuruk warned him of the Toa Mahri's intentions of destroying The Cord, and Diugn and his tribe evacuated. They were confronted by the mutated Piraka during their escape, but Diugn and most of his Zyglak survived the battle and made it out in time.

Old Grievances

Diugn did not integrate into Spherus Magna society, preferring to lead a solitary life with his Zyglak. More Zyglak tribes joined him over the years, allowing him to amass a formidable army.

One day, a being named Manauhk appeared before him asking for his army's help in defending the city of Metru Magna from an attack. The entity also shared a vision: if Diugn helped in the defense of the city, he would open the opportunity to rule a beautiful kingdom in the future. Diugn accepted Manauhk's offer and was turned into an amphibian.

Diugn and his army marched into Metru Magna, and the enemy force to fight made its appearance: the Alpha Being Mersny with an army of monstrosities. After a fierce battle, Diugn withdrew his forces and regrouped with Manauhk and his allies in a camp. Soon after, Mersny's army attacked the camp but thanks to the help of Deriahk, Pakark, and Vilrohk, they ended up victorious. Meanwhile, Mersny was defeated and killed by his brother, Vavakx, resulting in a definitive victory.

After the threat was over, Manauhk thanked Diugn for his help and gave him a gift: Cronuk's Staff.

The Flare of Chaos

Recognizing Diugn as a prisoner of the Pit, the Order of Mata Nui attempted to re-imprison him. He, however, joined the ranks of the Spherus Magna Council and made alliances with many of its Senators to gain power and influence. Eventually, the Order had to stop its attempts to convict him so as to prevent a political scandal.

Around this time, Diugn was contacted by a presence in Cronuk's Staff: Diguxx. Diguxx shared visions of the future and promised Diugn that he would become the Governor of the kingdom of Xianori if he followed his advice. Diugn accepted the deal and used Diguxx's predictions for his own advancement.

Eventually, Diugn discovered corruption in the Spherus Magna Council. Under Diguxx's instructions, Diugn left clues for the truth to be discovered. Diguxx also predicted that Turaga Koved would become the next President of the Council, information that Diugn shared with the Prefect Eukar of the Skakdi Alliance.

Rebellion

Over the next few months, the corruption of the Spherus Magna Council devastated Xianori, and Diguxx summoned Diugn to his prison to discuss current events. Diugn, realizing that he was being manipulated by Diguxx, refused on continuing to serve him. In response, Diguxx stripped Diugn of Cronuk's Staff, erased parts of his memory, and teleported him back to Metru Magna.

Diugn continued his plan to become Governor of Xianori and met with Eukar to negotiate an alliance. Eukar interrogated Diugn about the origin of his past predictions, but because his memories of Diguxx had been erased, Diugn wasn't able to respond. He, however, recalled a prediction that Deriahk's life was in danger. Eukar was alarmed by this and warned Deriahk immediately, saving his life. Grateful for his role in saving Deriahk, Eukar agreed to make a deal with Diugn and secure the Governor position for him, in exchange for his unconditional help to stop the newly elected President Koved.

After the events of the Rebellion in Xianori, the Spherus Magna Council succeeded in annexing the kingdom as part of its confederation and, with Eukar's intervention, Diugn was elected as its Governor. He initiated reforms, reducing the powers of the Magistrate of Xianori and granting greater equity to the residents of the kingdom. Although the majority of the population received his leadership well, the nobility tried to resist his reforms.

Diugn only had to remind the nobles about the massacres of the Rebellion to keep them under control.

Abilities and Traits

Diugn appears at first sight as someone polite and charming. As a diplomat, he is extremely persuasive and empathetic, traits that allowed him to broker deals that would normally seem impossible; among his greatest achievements, he was able to forge relations with the Zyglak and to work his way up the Spherus Magna Council to Governor of Xianori through his alliances.

Diugn is a being of great ambition, but he also harbors good morals and judgment. He is open to different philosophies, and is convinced that no absolute truths exist.

Power

Diugn has the power to mentally sense the presence of emotions, including feelings, moods and their effects. This power has greatly contibuted to his natural persuation and negotiation abilities.

Diugn became a water-breather upon exposure to the mutagen of the Pit but, other than growing venomous spikes all over his body, his appearance has not suffered substantial changes despite the thousands of years of constant exposure. Years later, Manauhk made him amphibious.

Mask and Tools

Diugn wears the Great Mask of Biomechanics, which gives him the power to control and influence technology. He also wears thick protective armor. Upon contact with the black waters of the Pit, his mask and armor fused with his physiology.

Diugn owns a personal arsenal with various weapons and tools.

Army

Diugn commands an army of Zyglak.

Since his appointment as Governor of Xianori, Diugn keeps a Kardas Wyvern as a pet.

• Diugn was created in 2014 and he made use of various aspects that were originally incorporated into Vavakx in Bionicle Tales, including his army of Zyglak and his background as a Pit Prisoner.
