Diugn is a former member of the Hand of Artakha, prisoner of the Pit, and current Governor of the kingdom of Xianori.
Biography[]
Diugn, a founding member of the Hand of Artakha, distinguished himself as a skilled diplomat and negotiator. His political decisions had a long-lasting impact in the early history of the Matoran Universe, ushering an era of tranquility and prosperity.
Following the dissolution of the Hand, Diugn grappled with a sense of purposelessness. Seeking new avenues, he joined the League of Six Kingdoms, assuming the role of personal advisor to the Barraki Takadox. Quickly gaining Takadox's trust, Diugn assumed de facto leadership over his domain, managing the intricacies of governance while Takadox pursued his personal ambitions.
In the aftermath of the Barraki's rebellion against the Great Spirit Mata Nui, the League suffered a crushing defeat, leading to the capture of numerous prominent members, including Diugn, who then found themselves imprisoned in the Pit.
The Pit[]
For eons, Diugn languished in his aquatic prison until the Great Cataclysm shattered the Pit's dome, liberating its incarcerated inhabitants into the oceanic expanse. Breaking free from the wreckage, Diugn was mutated by the murky black waters, granting him the ability to breathe underwater.
During his subsequent travels, Diugn fell into the clutches of a tribe of Zyglak. Initially marked for death, Diugn skillfully swayed disenchanted members of the tribe to join forces with him. He then orchestrated the death of the tribe's leader, seizing control of the group and establishing his dominion within The Cord.
One fortuitous day, Diugn rescued a Matoran from Mahri Nui named Kuruk, offering him continued protection in exchange for information.
Centuries later, Kuruk warned Diugn of the impending threat posed by the Toa Mahri's intentions to destroy The Cord. Diugn led his tribe in an evacuation, only to face a confrontation with the mutated Piraka during their escape. Enduring considerable losses, Diugn and his Zyglak emerged battered yet victorious.
Old Grievances[]
Preferring a reclusive existence alongside his Zyglak companions, Diugn did not seek integration into Spherus Magna's unified society. Over the years, his ranks swelled as more Zyglak flocked to his side, allowing him to amass a formidable army.
One day, an enigmatic entity named Manauhk presented itself before Diugn, beseeching his aid in defending the city of Metru Magna against an imminent attack. To persuade him, Manauhk offered a tantalizing glimpse of a future where Diugn would reign over a beautiful kingdom. Tempted by the vision, Diugn accepted the proposition and was made amphibious by Manauhk.
Diugn and his forces ascended to the surface and journeyed to Metru Magna. Soon thereafter, the Alpha Being Mersny, accompanied by a horde of abominations, descended upon the city, launching a savage assault. Diugn and his warriors clashed with the enemy forces. Amidst the battle, he regrouped with Manauhk and their allies at a camp.
Once again, Mersny's legions surged forth, reinvigorating the conflict. Fortuitously, the timely intervention of Deriahk, Pakark, and Vilrohk tipped the scales in their favor. Not long after, they received word of Mersny's demise, securing a definitive victory.
With the threat vanquished, Diugn received Manauhk's gratitude and a generous gift: Cronuk's Staff.
The Flare of Chaos[]
Recognizing Diugn as a former prisoner of Pit, the Order of Mata Nui sought to reimpose imprisonment upon him. However, he aligned himself with the Spherus Magna Council, forging alliances with influential Senators. Ultimately, the Order had to abandon its pursuit of Diugn, knowing the potential political ramifications.
During this time, Diugn was contacted by a mysterious presence within Cronuk's Staff: Diguxx. Through enigmatic visions of the future, Diguxx deftly manipulated Diugn, securing his assistance for his plans.
In the ensuing months, rampant corruption within the Spherus Magna Council wrought havoc upon Xianori, a nation locked in a tense rivalry with the Council. At Diguxx's behest, Diugn shared his insights with Eukar, the Prefect of the Skakdi Alliance.
Rebellion[]
As the situation in Xianori deteriorated, Diugn received a summons from Diguxx. Realizing that he was being manipulated, Diugn defiantly spurned Diguxx's counsel, refusing to work with him anymore. In a retaliatory act, Diguxx stripped Diugn of Cronuk's Staff, erased portions of his memory, and unceremoniously teleported him back to Metru Magna.
Diugn met again with Eukar, negotiating an alliance. Forewarning of an imminent threat on Deriahk's life, Diugn's counsel spared his former comrade from death.
Following the Rebellion's aftermath in Xianori, the Spherus Magna Council annexed the kingdom into its confederation. Grateful for Diugn's instrumental role in safeguarding Deriahk, Eukar extended a unique proposition, sponsoring Diugn as the Governor of Xianori.
Embracing his newfound position, Diugn instituted reforms, curbing the powers of the Xianori Magistrate and fostering equitable conditions for the kingdom's citizens. While most of the populace warmly embraced his leadership, the nobility attempted to impede his reforms, only to be reminded of the massacres that marred the Rebellion, compelling them to acquiesce to Diugn's resolve.
Abilities and Traits[]
At first glance, Diugn is a being of warm and inviting demeanor. His interpersonal skills allow him to navigate complex situations with tact and understanding. When interacting with others, he adeptly employs both persuasion and empathy.
Among his notable achievements is the successful alliance he made with the Zyglak, a testament to his knack for fostering connections in the most unlikely of places. His ascension through the echelons of the Spherus Magna Council also speaks volumes about his strategic acumen, culminating in his assignment as Governor of Xianori.
Despite his ambition, Diugn's strives to uphold strong moral principles and sound judgment.
Power[]
Diugn has the psionic ability to sense emotions, including feelings, moods, and their impact. He can also harness this ability to deftly manipulate emotions, skillfully employing them to advance his objectives. This power significantly contributed to his innate talents as a negotiator and persuader.
Upon enduring exposure to the mutagenic waters of the Pit, Diugn's physiology underwent a transformation, giving him the ability to breathe underwater. Though his appearance has remained largely unchanged, venomous spikes now cover his body. Centuries later, through the intervention of Manauhk, Diugn was made amphibious.
Mask and Tools[]
Diugn wears the Great Mask of Biomechanics, bestowing upon him control over technology. He also dons protective armor, shielding him from harm. Following his exposure to the Pit's mutagen, Diugn's mask and armor fused with his physiology.
