Detras was the inventive and cold Toa Powai of Fire defending the island of Powai Nui. Originating from the Southern Continent, they immigrated to Powai Nui as a Ta-Matoran, seeking affirmation from the island's more tolerant culture. There, they took up work as a cook, although their true passions were in engineering and smithery. Later, when the Wraith Syndicate began causing trouble on the island, they became a Toa and helped form the Toa Powai.

As a Ta-Matoran, Detras had a bit of a hunch, a pale orange eye and heartlight color, and maroon and orange armor.

Detras's transformation into a Toa gave them a somewhat knight-like appearance, with broad, armored shoulders. An undercurrent of black ran beneath the orange and maroon. Iconically, a pair of black tube-like straps crossed around their torso, forming an X shape on their chest. This began their association with the X symbol among the Matoran.

They later modified their armor, making it even more knight-like. A pair of faulds on their hips mirrored their shoulder pads and were part of a sort of "armor skirt" that continued onto the back of their waist. They injected more black into their armor, especially in their limbs, and removed the orange from their torso, mostly condensing the maroon in it. They also slightly modified their Great Grilek, making the blue visor retractible and decorating it with an azure-lensed scope and a small, hair-like decoration. All of their Toa siblings insisted they keep the "chest X".

Notably, repeated usage of their Great Lyn had the side effect of permanently chaning their eyes (and thus their heartlight) from their natural pale orange to a rich midnight blue. They could not determine why this had happened, and it did not affect their life at all, although Wreshi said they looked better this way.

Powers and Equipment[]

As a Ta-Matoran, Detras possessed dormant powers over the element of Fire, which manifested as a higher resistance to heat. When they became a Toa, they gained full access to these powers, allowing them to create, manipulate, and absorb heat and fire. Using these powers, they could heat and cool objects, set things aflame, and generate free-flowing infernos. They notably used these powers in a very controlled way, and were very particular about not causing collateral damage. After much honing of their powers, they also learned to project hotter-burning flames with a blue tint, although their ability to do this was limited and required much focus.

Detras wore a Great Lyn, the Mask of Conjuring, into which they could verbally program a single power (as long as they gave it one weakness as well) which would be useable for 15 minutes.

For Toa tools, they wielded the Welding Spear and a shield, the former of which could be used both for combat and welding. They later gave it a normal spearhead on the opposite end, and upgraded the "emitter" end to also work as a thruster.

Given their weapons, hesitance, and low agility, Detras very much preferred a defensive style of combat. Although their spear's thruster could speed up their mobility, it lacked precision, to their annoyance. Being an engineer at heart, much of their talent in action came from their quick thinking, creativity, and ability to outsmart both enemies and the odds. Although their Great Lyn provided great versatility, they tended to disadvantage themself by prematurely programming freezing powers into it to extinguish any out-of-control fires they created.

Personality and Traits[]

Most initially found Detras to be off-putting. Their head was constantly buried in their tinkering and engineering. Their humor was dry and sarcastic, sometimes dancing with the edge of what counted as "teasing". They intentionally hid their true feelings, to the point even some of their own siblings could barely get a read on them. This was their way of pushing away those they didn't feel comfortable opening up to. One could only truly get to know the Toa of Fire after understanding that... if they were lucky.

A loner for most of their life, Detras's inner world was steeped in anxieties and intrusive thoughts they rarely communicated.

Traits[]

Detras was nonbinary; while they used only they/them pronouns and not she/her, they described their gender identity as being in the feminine part of the spectrum.
At some point, they developed a way of quick travel around the sand dunes of southern Vo-Powai by riding their shield like a sandboard and rocketing themself around with the spear's thruster.
During a stay in Ga-Metru, they gained a love for Takea, and bought a large plush of the Rahi which they then took with them during their travels. As their transformation into a Toa made them much taller, however they lamented that they were now larger than the plush.
The fanon name of their Mask of Conjuring was taken from to name of Lynn Conway. Conway worked at IBM in the 1960's and initiated a revolution in the design of microchips. She is also notable as one of the most well-known transgender people in computer science.
Detras's name coincidentally means "behind" or "after" in Spanish. Chondrya did not know this when she came up with the name at age 10.
