Dekar is a Po-Matoran who lived in Mahri Nui. He is the Captain of the Mahri Nui Sentinels, a militia formed to protect the Matoran of the city from external threats.

History[]

Dekar spent his early life on the same island as Idris and Sarda, though he did not know either of them well while he lived there. He was a hunter for his village until the local Turaga went mad and shipped all of the island's residents to Karzahni. He was rebuilt into a smaller and weaker body and shipped away to the deepest, most uninhabited part of the Southern Continent. There, he continued to use his expertise as a hunter to benefit his fellow 'fixed' Matoran until the Great Cataclysm dislodged the section of the of the Continent Dekar lived on and sent it rocketing to the surface of the surface of the Endless Ocean. The survivors named the island Voya Nui and began to adjust to their new living conditions on the hostile island.

Dekar was one of the first to settle in the village that would eventually grow into the city of Mahri Nui. He spent his time hunting and fishing, even going so far as to start teaching others what he knows. As the city grew, Dekar became an important leader in the community. However, disaster struck as the section of land Mahri Nui was built on collapsed into the Voya Nui Bay, taking the city with it.

Life in Mahri Nui[]

After the collapse, Dekar took the lead in the rebuilding efforts. He established a militia called the Sentinels, using his skills as a hunter to train other Matoran to defend the city against the natural predators of the Bay. He supported her

Ten years later, Dekar was in council meeting of Mahri Nui when Kyrehx was attacked by Vampire Squid from the Black Water. While checking on the now comatose Kyrehx in Kaira's hut, Dekar overheard Defilak's discovery of the change in the Vampire Squid's behavior. He decided to take and expedition to the Black Water to investigate what caused the Vampire Squid to leave. He assembled a team including himself, Defilak, the Fe-Matoran inventor Feton, and fellow Sentinel Sarda. They used a submersible created by Defilak to go farther and descend deeper than the Matoran could on their own. The expedition ended early when they found a Toa floating in the Black Water. While bringing the Toa into the submersible, Kalmah attacked, killing Sarda and revealing the reason the Vampire Squid were forced to leave the Black Water.

Immediately upon returning to Mahri Nui, Dekar barely witnessed Kyros killing Lemiddus in order to take the Kanohi Ignika for himself. Dekar held Lemiddus in his arms while the Fa-Matoran died. As Kyros had been the current Council Leader for the city, Dekar used his authority as Captain of the Sentinels to appoint Defilak as the temporary leader of the city until the Vampire Squid crisis was resolved and Kyros was caught.

Personalities and Traits[]

Dekar is a stoic and commanding Matoran, traits that serve him well as the Captain of the Sentinels. He demands much of the Matoran who serve under him, but cares deeply for each and every Matoran who has joined the Sentinels. He would sacrifice himself for any one of them, and would do the same for the city of Mahri Nui. He is always willing to be the one to make the hard decision if he believes it will lead to a better outcome overall, even when doing so would cause him and those around him to be harmed.

Powers and Equipment[]

As a Po-Matoran, Dekar has a heightened natural strength and resilience beyond that of the average Matoran. He's a skilled hunter both in and out of water. After the Great Cataclysm, he realized he also had a talent for teaching and leadership while attempting to pass on those skills to his fellow Matoran

Dekar 's body was altered by the small amount of mutagen he was exposed to immediately after Mahri Nui sunk into the Voya Nui Bay. This gave him a stronger, sleeker form more suited to his new environment. Dekar wears a powerless yellow Kanohi Kiril and typically carries twin Electro-Blades.
